i found the cause to my other post but now i pose a new question and i would be gratefull if you guys get help me out.

right now i ahve a athlon xp 1900, 512 mb ddr mem and my geforce fx 5900 xt. after i upgraded to my card from a ati 8500, i saw big visual performance(not as much jaggies and no flashing textures) yet i saw little fps gain. i was shocked how the fps wasn't way above what it was. in Americas Army i use to get down to 12 fps sometimes in gun fights but now i only get down to like 17..which is still bad in my book. i spent quite a bit on this vid card thinking that i could run high settings with good frames that didnt' go below 30.

here is my qustion...is my 1.6 ghz athlonxp1900 not lettn my card get to its full potential? if i upgraded to a athlonxp2600 at 2.06 ghz would i see a big improvement? i would not spend any more than a athlonxp 2600. please tell me what you think.

thank you

It depends on the game, some games are very cpu intensive and AA is one of those. In other words some games rely more on the cpu than the video card.

AA kills most systems, if you're running 30fps steady on hospital you're doing good. So yes youll see a large performance increase when you increase clock speeds.

If you dont care and might end up upgrading you could try overclocking.

I dont know why most hardware sites dont use AA as a benchmark more, theres a bajillion people that play it, its current tech, and it brings computers to their knees.

the fx series of nvidia cards arent that flash from what i can gather - have you overclocked it?

no i havn't overclocked it. but do you guys think that my xp 1900 is just out of date. and actually i get down to 17 fps in firefights on hospital. do you think that if i get a mobo/cpu package with a xp 2600 = 2.0somthing ghz it will do alot better? and how much better do you think?

I'd say try to OC the sh*t out of what you have first. you never know what you'll end up with. Hell, I started out with an intel 2.4b and I have it running at 3.2 perfectly stable...not even a voltage increase to get that 700Mhz oc.
