Checking Tiger Direct I saw this 15" LCD for $287.99 CAN ($199.99 USD). It has a 16ms response time, 400:1 contrast ratio, it only has VGA input, 0.264 dot pitch and is 1024x768. Would this not make an excellent LCD to base a DIY projector on? I don't know what to think of a company that calls itself "Famous Brand" but who cares, the specs seem really great for that price. What do you guys think?

one of the main things you have to consider when doing a DIY projector is the location of the controller board.
they don't exactly list this on the specs, and it varies by monitor, so its mainly just trial and error.
in some cases, you can move the controller board easily out of the way of the lcd and youre fine, in others, its quite a pain and sometimes the ribbon cable is even so small, that there just isnt much you can do.
i would try and do a little more research on that panel and see if someone has sucessfully disassembled it for use as a projector.

spec wise it seems fine, however for the DIY projector my friend and i are making we got a used 15" MAG innovision panel for about $60 off ebay. granted it didnt come w/ a power cord and the guy is gonna screw us outta $30 more, but for $90 your getting something that will work just as good for well under half as much. my advice is go w/ ebay; assuming you know what your doing b/c you can get shafted there of course
