Okay... I want a new PC but pretty much primarely for a faster nicer processor. So, what would be the best way to go...

get a new PC and throw down my vidcard and stuff into it (I gotta 9600 xt, so I do not feel the need to get a new one) or...

get a new processor, but with a new processor do you need a new mobo? and would my cd burner and everything be compatable and the like? My PC is about 2 years old, a P4 - 1.3 ghz processor.

so what would be cheaper and more practical? preformance and money wise.

If i were you and most of your other parts were somewhat up to day so to speak i'd just buy a new motherboard/cpu/ram and throw everything else into your new board.

Ugh - a P4 1.3Ghz? That's gotta be the slowest processor out there. Get a newer processor - any AthlonXP, P4C or Athlon64 - and watch how your system becomes usable again.

One thing to watch out for is 64-bit. There's a 64-bit beta version of Windows XP out, so mass market support isn't too far away. Currently the only 64-bit processors on the market are the Athlon64s.

Don't bother upgrading your system - its a P4 1.3 Socket 423, probably SDRAM or slow RDRAM and would be better off in the trash.

lol. thanks guys. Okay... now where would be the best place to do this in canada? Is online shopping smarter than going local?

vibecomputers.com is the one i recommend most

sometimes they're a few bucks more expensive than ncix.com, but they pricematch, and the service is a ton better (i just ordered from both of them less than 2 weeks ago)

allot of my canadian friends like ncix.com never dealt with them myself though.

If you're around Vancouver www.atic.ca and www.ntcw.com are *the* best places around, very simple RMAs, *very* good prices and selection, though Paul at NewType is nicer.

I really, really hate the Canadian online stores (ncix, tigerdirect, computers canada). Do as much as you can locally.

Go for an Asus P4P800 Deluxe or Abit IS7-G, a P4 3.0 to 3.4 C, and two 512mb sticks of ram. NewType has Corsair and OCZ.

Trekster, I was going to check out Vibe as I'd never heard of them, but it seems their site is down... :(
