Im on a oldie 3200+ Venice right now. I was tossing and turning over the idea of upgrading to a 5000+ AM2 or E6600 Conroe, But I finally got my head on straight and thought about what the DDR2, Motherboard, Video cards to harness the awesome power, etc. would cost... so I think I'm settled on a 4600+ X2

Well, because of the lack of conroe mATX boards and the fact that the conroe CPU's are going to be way over msrp I'm going to go with an AM2 X2 4600+

X2 anything with over a 9x multiplier so i can get my 275 oc with my TCCC 2x1GB DDR :)

I'm going with a socket 939 X2 4600. Especially since I'm notoriously unlucky and never get good overclockable chips.

Looks like probably an AM2 x2 4200+ with a nice Zalman heatsink so I can overclock that creature.

sounds like im gonna have some competition for finding a 4600+ on price cut day

Really depends on how steep the price drop is. If a 3800+ X2 still costs more then a 6300, I might not buy anything till the next platform shift (Mobo/Cpu/Ram).
If all goes well a 4400+ X2 or above...

Well Monarch is displaying the drops without coupons now since they won't ship till Monday now anyway.

X2 3800+ 939 - $179
X2 3800+ AM2 - $169
X2 4200+ AM2 - $199
X2 4600+ 939 - $259
X2 4600+ AM2 - $257

And the interesting one...
X2 4800+ 939 - $320 - this is the 1mb cache version that is discontinued and no price drop was indicated on AMD OEM price sheets. And the Opteron's as expected did not get a drop.

These are all retail boxes with HS/Fan.

I was going to say 4600+ until I saw this. Too bad the 4400+ isn't on there, I guess I'll just have to make due with a 12x multiplier. ;)

hmm Im thinking about waiting to see what happens with the ATi / AMD supposed merger....

I'd love to get some kind of combo deal from the two :D

35w TDP X2 3800+
I'm interested in the same thing. What's the cpu code for that nowadays? Is it Toledo or Manchester?

I wish the optys were going down too...

I am probably gettign a 3800+ to use with a spare mobo, or possibly use it in my gaming rig if I can get an adequate overclock on it... That means I will be getting the
35w TDP X2 3800+
that everyone has mentioned :D

nm I found it... it's the ADD3800CUBOX. AM2 only. Are the price cuts supposed to affect this particular one?

.

A socket 939 X2 4600+, 2 x 2400mhz core speed looks good to me. I'm going to wait a few weeks for the online store prices to settle.

I'm just waiting to see what is the best bang for the buck around $300. I wish Newegg would update their prices.

I was thinking about going AM2 5000 but after seeing the out of stock status of that cpu almost everywhere I'm thinking a X2 4600 (939) now and just upgrade the cpu only.

im in the same boat. I would rather get a 5000+, but that means AM2 which means DDR2 and a new mobo, and also means PCI-e...so just gonna have to stick with 939 this time around.
