Well, I have been through a lot of ideas. First, the 6800nu. Next, the 9800 Pro. What next? I am sick of the FX5200 and I have the money to buy a new card, but I don't want to buy a new PSU. So my PSU is as follows:

300 watts
15A on the 12+ rail

Can anyone help me out? a 9700 Pro, maybe? Maybe, with luck, a 9800 Pro?

A Gateway 510 sounds like their Gamer's "s" class model...

stick a 9800Pro...Gateway's XL came with that card.

Indeed..."Gamer" my ass! Heh...thanks. I just want to stick it in there and have ne probs with it.
 
That PSU rating is a bunch of crap as far as I am concerned. I was running an A64 system, 2 HDDs, 2 DVD Drives, 3 fans, 6800GT all off of a 300W PSU (15A 12V) with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

The 6800 NU should run fine, unless your PSU is really really poorly made.

I really don't know...I have had too many negative comments on my PSU and the 6800NU...What if it craps out? Also, If I am getting the 6800NU, I will most certainly unlock and OC it to near GT speeds...this will be OK? Also, I might go 9800 Pro...not sure yet unless someone really gives me a "Look...the 6800NU is 2x the performance of the 9800 Pro"...or Benchmarks or something...All in all, I need help deciding! :)
 
According to the power consumption article at xbit labs, the 6800nu uses less power than the 9800 pro. However, and more importantly, the 6800nu draws more of its power from the 12v rail. The 9800 pro only draws 0.59a from the 12v rail. The 6800 draws 2.37a from the 12v rail. This is why the 9800 pro is safer than the 6800nu even though the 9800 pro draws more total power.

I can't really give a recommendation since I'm not experienced with your psu. I can tell you that I was in a similar situation, actually worse, I had 250w with 14a on the 12v rail. I decided to swap out my psu for a quality 350w and get a current gen Nvidia card.

Edit: Unlocking the 6800nu won't matter. Overclocking it will take its draw on the 12v rail from 2.37a to about 2.51a.

bad idea since hte 9800 pro uses more power at idle than a 6800. a 6800 nu should be ok, or get a better psu first. get a better computer too. gateway is crap.
