what would be a good choice for a video card ( im not a heavy gamer but love strategy games) what do you think would be my best choice???
i was thinking about ATI'S X1900XT but would i really need a card like that?( trying to cut the cost :) )

You might want to go for a x1800xt.. still has plenty of power, but you dont need a HUGE amount for rts games.

Maybe a 1900 wouldnt be a bad idea. He is using a 30" display, and even with RTS, you can get graphic-hungry games that have lots of detail (Dawn of War, Empire E, Total War), esp considering that with that display you would prolly want to crank the resolution all the way up as well...

Lets say ill go with x1900xt , i looked at new egg's and there are some 1900's priced at 350$ and some 1900's priced at 450$ and they got like 10 1900's. which one would be good for me ?
and why there is such a big gap in the prices?

different models,different speeds

theirs 1900xt and 1900 xtx
xtx is just overclocked more imo

get the xt its worth it....
even the 1800xt is cool

its clocked higher than the 1900xt

jeez... if you can afford an $1800 or so monitor, you're going to want a video card setup that can match its quality; top of the line. definitely the 1900xtx or nvidia 7950

some of the strategy games coming out lately take just as much processing / gpu power as shooters.

hey, thats what I said! ok...you said it better..lol.

I dont know for sure, but something in the back of my head is telling me that a nVidia card would be a better idea for RTS games. Between the drivers, image quality, etc...I would look at a 7900GT or something along those lines.

Oh, I know another reason...when youre playing RTS, you are often sitting there for hours on end, and nothing gets more annoying than those noisy fans that ATI uses.

This would most likely be my pick...

A nice 7900GT. Heck, and its not like the extra 256 of video memory would hurt if you just went with 7900GTX 512 if you want to spend $450ish.
