RAM / GSkill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 5-5-5-15 1.8V - 1.9V ($70)
CPU / Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 65W ($190)
MOBO / Shuttle SG31G2 (LGA775) 250W PSU ($220)
PCI-E / ATI AIW X800 XL 256MB (Free) or ???????? ($100-200)

I've just bought the above items, and am debating if I should buy a new video card. I have one ATI All-in-Wonder X800 XL 256MB PCI-E that I can pull from my old machine and use until the prime time to upgrade. Any suggestions? Keep in mind the Shuttle only has a 250W power supply.

Do you think prices will drop immediately, or will they take some time?

That probably depends heavily on, in order, the specific card in question and then what happens when the NDA lifts and the 4800 line emerges into the light in earnest. But at least initially, for the first week or two (three?), prices probably won't fluctuate too much unless something epic happens...

9800 Pro or XT. Great bang-for-your-buck.

Or wait a week or two and decide between the 4850, 4870, 260 or 280.

The 4850 may end up being a great card in that price range, but I'd expect them to be full/almost full price the first few weeks at least (AFAIK the price will be $200 which is at the top of your listed price range). The 8800GT or 8800GTX are the best cards (in that price range) that are currently available, and they are great cards, but the 4850 may be even better (we'll know next week :))

I don't think 250W is going to be enough for any new card though, I'd be surprised if that's even enough for the X800XL.

Did you even read his post? :p He already has a X800XL which is faster than a 9800. The 9800PRO was released 5+ years ago too so that seems like a strange suggestion.. The 4870, 260, and 280 are all above his price range.

WOOSH!!! That's the sound of a joke going over your head. I presume it happens quite often. :p

Only when the joke isn't funny apparently :p Did you hear that one about the Rabbi, the Priest, and the Geforce3 Ti500? That one cracks me up.
