I'm building a PC for office use. Here it is:

PSU 400W FSB $41.50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104953

CPU is E6300 for $203

HD is 80Gig WD $42 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144122

Mobo is Extreme compatible $93

Memory 2 G.Skills at 512MB each $80

CD/DVD burner LiteOn for $38 (on of the best)

Case something like this for $37

The video card is the most tricky one, but I was thinking about this ASUS for 55$

I'd like some suggestions about the video card. I could go as high as $70. The PC is mainly for office use, but with some intense apps: e.g. photoshop etc.

look for Geforce 6200 or if they make vanilla 6800 pcie go for that.

x700pro......ehhh....not exactly almost as good as the 6600gt. Quite a bit further away. It is more on par with the 6600 ddr2 versions, which are also very cheap. If the 7300gt's were any cheaper I'd totally suggest them. I'm not a big sapphire fan so I'd prefer a 6600 DDR2 these days.

The you might rethink you're configuration. Instead of 2 512's if you're doing a lot of photoshop a decent starting point is 2 GB sticks if not more depending on how much you do. Extra ram more than a $70 video card will pay you dividends.

I've owned the 6600 DDR version overclocked or what not... Does really good in doom 3 1024x768 other than that it doesn't do quite well in other games.. Comes close to 9700pro but fps fluctuates in a lot in games than a radeon 9700 which I owned prior to owning the 6600... Dips into the teens other than doom 3... The bandwidth just isn't there...

I don't know about x700pro as I've never owned it but it looks like it has more memory bandwidth.. And for $48.99... You just can't do better in this price range... Comes very close 9800 so I hear...

Agreed

Buy a cheap 6200 card and spend the extra money on more RAM.

If you're talking about extreme low end video cards it's usually best to stick with Nvidia...ATI makes great high end cards but they are a little lacking at the other end.

More RAM and any cheap video card.

For office apps, even photoshop they do not use the video card for anything but 2d display.

I would recommend DVI and a LCD though, with digital output you are not so worried about the quality of the 2d filters because the signal is digital not analog.

get 2g of ram, all the processer would be a shame to limit it with memory. that that x700 someone else linked would be much better and cheaper then the x550
