I will be getting a 5770 early next month and I was looking on newegg and noticed there are several differant versions. The heatsinks on these cards really vary. I was wondering which had the best cooling solution.

Some have heatpipes, some don't, some exhaust out the back, some don't. My priorties are:
1: Long life (warranty)
2: Temperature lvl
3: Noise lvl
4: Price

Exhausting the heat out the back is no big deal, I can always turn the side fan to exhaust and the PSU will also pull some of the hot air out of the Case (Antec 900).I will not overclock the card beyond the factory speeds but a factory overclocked card is ok.

This is the one I have been looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462

I have the XFX 5770 you linked to and love it. OCed to 950/1325 it doesn't break 60C or 40% fan speed on auto. I can't hear it over my case fans. Plus you can't beat double lifetime warranty...;)

When they first came out a got a sweet deal on the Sapphire 5770 and have not had any issues other than HDMI not working with my LCD and this could just be the HDMi cable they provided.

2 Years Warranty, I figure in two years time if it dies I can buy another low end card.
Haven’t O/C yet so I never looked at the temps.

In my case which sits on the floor I don’t hear this card at all. My 80MM fans are louder then this card.

I paid $148.00 through a sweet deal at the time.

If the XFX is cheaper I would probably go with it just for the warranty, however I know these card went through a cooling change from the first released parts to what is out now so watch for what OEMs are using for their cooling solutions if heat/o/c is something you plan to do.

In short, in spite of the visual similarities to the 5750’s cooler, the Rev 2 cooler entails a much larger heatsink using heatpipes and better fan placement. If you’ve ever seen Zalman’s VF900 GPU cooler, then the design is very similar to that.
It says rev 2 (egg shaped cooler) is better than the shroud although of course I think it depends a bit on your case's airflow. I remember reading that conclusion elsewhere too but that's one source. I'm sure google will be helpful if you want other opinions. Kinda good for the consumer since no shroud = cheaper and possibly cooler.

+1 Source.

Sounds like you don't have any issue getting decent airflow around the card so you might actually be a tad better off with the egg shaped cooler.

The Sapphire vapor-x heatsink is the best of the bunch if you don't want to install an aftermarket cooler (which I believe the XFX warranty still covers if you want to go that route, correct me if I'm wrong), it's nearly silent with the default fan profile and load temps reportedly never go over ~65-70C. [Source]

The XFX XXX edition gives you that tiny 25MHz factory overclock, but it's not substantial enough to warrant the extra $$. People routinely pull much higher overclocks out of the stock 5770 and it's not going to make a difference in your gaming experience anyway.

This is the 5770 I've been eying, just waiting a tad bit longer to see if the 5830 will ever come out for ~$200 and either pick one of those up or hope it nudges the 5770's south of $150 and hop on that.

Maybe I misread it originally..

I have the same card in two systems with healthy OCs on both. They perform a lot better than I expected. I really like XFX a lot too. Even their boxes are nice. :)

Sounds like the card I linked to was a good choice as it has the 2nd generation Heatsink w/ the heatpipes and that it wont be a problem as to increased case temps.

I don't know anything about the "Double Lifetime" warranty, I am going to have to look into that but it sounds like a damn good warranty.
