What to upgrade first?

Lets see here should i go with a asus board/amd 64 3000+ or a better video card?...i want to spen around 300-350 and i like nvidia btw and the asus board im looking at comes with 4 ram slots and ill buy it from monarch, let them deal with the winchester issues.

my specs are
Asrock pt880
p4 2.4b
Geforce fx 5900xt
sound blaster 7.1
2 gig corsair value ram pc 3200

Decide what you need to upgrade based on your needs. If you want better gameplay buy a new video card. I would suggest savign a bit more money and make it a more worthwhile upgrade.

I'm a gamer so, I personally, would go with a new vid card. But, it should really be based on your needs/desires, like KoolDrew said.

yeah im a game player, hmmm so save and get GT 6800 or ultra?....seems to me ultra is 100 bucks and not much more power...looking at the spec on digit-life.com

I would go for a 6600GT ($200). Install that.

Wait for the prices of the mobo/cpu to go down just a little and keep savings and in no time you'll have the mobo and cpu. And you will be playing games decently and then better when you get your mobo/cpu.

I say save your money until the new mb come out with pci-x, then get a 6800gt pci-x. Or just get a 6800GT and be happy...

I asked this smae question in the gaming forum and got the answer, it depends on what you play. For HL2, looks like the game is more CPU bound than most people first thought. Firingsquad (aka PS2 ass-kissing site) has a good article on HL@ and CPUs. For D3, you might want a better vid card.

My sys is in my sig and I'll be going the CPU route. ~$200 for a 3.2.

It depends IMHO on how fast you can get more cash to spend on the pc.
If you will be stick awhile then just get the best vid card your money can buy.

If not then go for the amd and mobo.
AMD has markedly better performance for gaming.

The 200 ish 6600GT is getting rave reviews. Not a 6800 but plenty good for any of the current games.

I am a picky bastard, but Isn't PCI-x just PCI with more bittage, not PCI-Express?

PCI-E is the abbreviation for PCI Express.

kthx
