I got a little upgrade problem, I need a new server bad.. and buying a new server is no fun, so I figure I'm gonna buy myself new stuff and use the old one as a server.
My current setup is a a7n8x, an agp geforce 6800, a cpu running at 180x11.5 (no idea what it was originally anymore
), and Corsair Value S PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Kit w/two matched Value Select 512MB.
Now I dont wanna go PCIE because I got a 6800 agp card, and I dont feel like replacing that one. I was thinking about a MSI NEO2 motherboard with a athlon 64 3200+, is that memory I got gonna hold me back?
How much is getting a 754 gonna slow me down? I'm thinking the 6800 and the motherboard+cpu might hold out basically the same length, so when I upgrade after that I might replace all of it and go pcie then anyway.
I basically wanna get as much bang for the buck while not making any major bottlenecks, there's no point in me getting the latest greatest 939 setup if the system will bottleneck on the ram, and it'd be great to get a setup that'd be easy to upgrade later, but I figure when I replace the motherboard next time I'll have to go pcie anyway.
Oh, and does anyone have any advice on fans? My computer case is in another room, so noise ain't a problem, defenatly hoping to overclock a bit.
//edit I just noticed the price difference between a 3200+ and a 3500+ where I was looking to buy was 290$ -> 400$, that can not possible be worth it, any new cores that overclock like crazy or something?, hmm, and a 3000+ is just 200$, gah, I will not be able to make up my mind
