What to do with partial finished WU's

I've got to image over 18-20 boxen with WU's in various stages of completion. Many of these WU's are 600 pointers. What, if anything, should I do with these? 8:30 am Monday morning they are going bye bye.

I could back them up and finish them later I guess. 82 day deadline I think on the 600 pointers so that's an option.

Get them to a fellow folder here, email/FTP? Anyone interested? You can change the name, just please make sure the points go to good old team 33. :D :D :D

Either way, does anyone know how to "install" these onto a new boxen with out screwing up everything? Copy the whole directory over, delete the config file, run console -config and enter the correct info them the unit shoudl pick up where it left off,,,,, maybe?

Your thoughts?

Well I am not sure but if someone knows how I would do at least 1 for you! :D

i've copied the whole directory over file for file, and (on a Mac at least) it worked fine. If anything, just make sure you backup the whole folder and that way if you need to delete a file you can later... but just make sure you've got everythign from the folder.

I'm gonna get a new box in a little while here (nothin' special: P3 or P2) so if you wanted to you could send my one or two folders/workunits and i could just keep them on my desktop and finish them for you before i intall the service.

i can volunteer my box too. Especially the 600 pointers. Just let me know if you want me to fold them. For the [H]orde, of course. :D

i can keep some backups and experiment with them.

If you are going to keep them, be sure to get your registry entry (ies), too. That will have the USER ID, allowing to pick up and run immediately. Use regedit and export the Pandegroup key, save to disk with your FAH stuff and you're set. After the re-imaging is complete, you can double-click on the Reg entry you saved which will import it, then copy the folder back in and start it up. You may have to reconfigure to start as a service if you were before.
If you want to hand them out, I'd be proud to take one or two for you.

Thanks for the intrest and help. I've got some other boxen folding, and 20 more boxen coming in this Friday which I can use short term. Holding onto anything less than the 600 pointers I might get into deadline troubles. I could move the smaller ones onto the existing boxen, but I'm thinking when I'm all done I'll have screwed up the moved WU and the existing WU... :(

I wish I knew how to write scripts to grab all these guys and the reg keys.....

The 600 ponters take ~104 hours to do on these boxen, I'd hate to throw away 2-3 days worth of folding, maybe I should just not bother with anything less than these.

Stop the servive, export the reg key into the local folding directory, map my server, dump the whole folder over, rename the folder on the server. To install pull the folder back over, rename back to orginal local name, double click reg key, run -config to pop the service back in. Look -ok-?

That looks right, marty. Good luck with that. If you have time, you could send in the partial WU (< 600 pts.) for credit rather than just lose them. There is a flag that does this... -send x where x is the WU queue number. At least you'd salvage some points and data with that.

Wait... so you're saying that you can get credit for a work unit that's only partially complete when you turn it in?

Yes. That will happen when one faults out or you use the -send x flag. I think Stanford would rather you do this than just kill the WU. They can still salvage some data from a partial WU, I believe.

Well the small one did not seem to upload, or I did something wrong.

Anybody want a few smaller WU's? PM me for the ftp. Feel free to change the name to your name, team 33 but of course!

I downloaded 1 file, 95% one of course, and deleted the file from there.
I will only take the 1 for now and make sure it works before taking another.
Thanks Marty.....now back to work!!! :p

This won't work. The -send x and -send all flags aren't any more effective in sending WUs back to Stanford than just restarting the client. None of these methods will do anything unless there is a wuresults_xx.dat file in the work folder. There won't be a wuresults_xx.dat file in the work folder unless the WU is actually finished or you got an Early_Unit_End.

We will be able to finnish these WU since we have the whole folder...right?

Maybe I stand corrected, but I did use the -send x flag to clear out what was done on a rig before deleting the whole folder. I was under the impression that I actually sent something in...
Mayhem33 - Yes, you will.
