lol so i'm upgrading my system and decided to buy a new ssd.
Got a Samsung 840 Evo 750GB on order :)

Currently i've got the following drives:

256GB Crucial M4: C: windows/programs drive (129GB Free)
256GB Crucial M4: Steam/games drive (89GB Free)
128GB Crucial M4: swap drive for photoshop/lightroom, page file (89GB Free)
3TB Seagate 7200rpm: photography/videos (2.58TB free)

The evo will combine the two 256gb m4's onto one drive.
I'll probably pull out the 128gb drive.
one of the 256 m4's will be going into my macbook pro(to replace another m4 128gb... lol)

So, opinions on what I should do with the other 256gb drive?
I could move the photos/video to the drive off the seagate, but I would hate to fill it up quickly. I shoot with a nikon d800 (36mp, 50mb raw files) and videos even worse.

Use them as scratch disks. Anytime I need to do something I/O intensive, I make sure it is running on a SSD.

I also have spares for doing test installs. I know you can easily do that with a VM but I like real-world scenarios. ;)

yeah thats basically what the 128gb m4 is being used for.

I use them for backups. Although at work I currently have 4 drives sitting under a laptop that gets hot..

ocbaud, what's up with all the lol's in your post? You must be really pleased with your collection of disks.

Get an inexpensive external USB 3.0 enclosure. MassCool and Rosewill make good aluminum enclosures that are prices around $15 shipped.

If I had extra SSDs laying around I'd probably setup a l2arc and zil for my zfs setup.

they make excellent shotgun and or rifle/pistol targets. also, for compliance after you're done shooting them to pieces you can check the 'pulverize' box next you fill out the report for phased out drives :).

:D I really like this answer..

I remove the magnets from hard drives, stick them on refrigerators, and laugh when people try to take them down. I also use them to retrieve screws lost in carpeting and cellulose insulation and find wall studs.
