what to do with $300?

That's roughly what I'm getting from tax refunds.

2 things hurt me this year.

1. the 1 paycheck I got from Warrensburg for $1000 did not have federal tax taken out on it. So, I had to pay about 15% on that.

2. I didn't reach the limit for deductions for my donation of my car to charity to apply. It seems that I simply didn't have enough debts on my shoulders to hit that mark. No mortgage. No student loans. Nothing. In my desire to pay everything off, I screwed this up. So, I basically gave it away for nothing. Needless to say, I'm going to laugh at all the charities that ask for my help from now on! (or until I reach that $800 blue book value I should have been able to get for it).

As it stands, I'm getting $45 back from Federal, and $32 from State.

My parents were able to put the car on their taxes, and get an additional 200 which they'll give me.

So, I have roughly 300 bucks to play with.

It's probably enough to make a car payment…but, I'm already going to be paying it off in April from how things look so far.

It's not enough to pay bills, or pay for a month's rent.

So…what suggestions do you have?

I don't have enough room in the fridge for all the Guinness it could buy (roughly 8 or 9 cases)….and I don't plan on drinking that much in 10 years' time, let alone before it reaches the point of bitter beer face.

And no, giving it to you isn't a viable option. Sorry.

Make the car payment. Use the April car payment to buy your hardware.

The April car payment, assuming that all goes as planned will be roughly $7000.

I'll pay it off in April as soon as I know I have my current job for at least 1 more year (contract job. yay.)

I hate debt.

no can do on the strippers.

have a girlfriend....that loves Quake 3. can't improve on that.

Why not save it? Someday in the future you may actually think of a logical use for the three hundred dollars, don't just blow it because you have it.

Plan B is to save it.

I'm just looking for possible Plan A's.

Well it does not look like you need any computer upgrades. I would just save it for a rainy day. How about a digital camera or a mini DV. Something to think about.

you have a pretty killer system. you could buy another gig of RAM?? not really necessary but it's bragging rights and that would be awesome to have 2GB!! maybe a good digi camera?? don't know what kinda case you have, but you could try your hand at building one from the ground up?? or maybe a WC setup if you don't have one

considering how many "need money now" threads in FS/FT i've seen from you, maybe you should just pocket it.

I second that...

Buy 300 pairs of socks. Put on new ones every morning and throw them away at the end of the day. If you step on a little water in the kitchen or something, just chuck them and grab a new pair. It's the first step on your way to living a life of gross excess!

Just save it dude!
The reason you can not think of anything to buy is becasue you do not need anything.

Hey I just thought about something you could use SOME of the money for. Get your g/f something really nice for valentines day.

Buy DVDs. Those are always fun.

or...you could save it? Perhaps? Jeez with your setup I dont think you'll be needing new hardware in a while.

you can buy zip ties, and explore the new realm of wire-care / neatness.

then you can buy some raggedy ann and andy sheets like I got :D (ok..that was sad...I really have some...)

How about a headphone/amp setup for the laptop? For $300, you can probably get a reasonably nice setup.

You could purchase the DiNovo, it'll suck up $199 out of your $300, but you don't need it, you have the MX Duo. I say save it, you've got a pretty sweet setup already w/ a nice box and a good looking dual display setup as well as good sound and input devices. You could use $50-100 and buy a nice new chair, but your might already have that, but it's not pictured. Save it, it'll help out w/ that big car payment later. New hardware is always coming out, i'm sure you'll think of something in good time :)

The last time I saw his set up, he had an Aeron. I want an Aeron :(

The only Hardware thing I see an even minor issue with would be the laptop sound. Besides that, nothing would really give 'kick' to your power-user...ing. :p

Sheets without bows on them. Or you could buy me something!

my grandma made that bed cover when I was less than 2.

it's made out of my grandpa's old bib overalls.

I'm not giving it up--it's nice and warm. and free.

Yes, I have an Aeron.

My girlfriend and I capped ourselves at $35. otherwise, she'd be getting a digital camera instead of a tablet for her computer (she likes to draw)

The desk was $150. the 2 formica ends were bought at Lowes; the folding table legs at Menards.

as for wire tidyness...I'm still working on a way to attach them to the desk. I need to install cup hooks on the bottom of the desk; until then, they have to stay there.

I'm thinking about it :)

won't do anything until 2005 or so...I'm not inclined to jump into this...but if things are as good a year from now as they are now...yeah.

Think I figured out what to do with it.

Save it for the trip to Quakecon 2004!

I agree. Even if you can't think of anything, you can at least have some fun at Quakecon 2004 :p

edit: spelling.
