what to do with 20-50 comps

ive run into 20-50 comps from ~2000 i dont know the specs on em but they were decent ones in 2000 ill have specs by friday. now that i have these what are some ideas to use them for? alsy FYI im a networking noob. i know my way around a comp but networking is like a foregin language to me.

im pretty sure there HDDs were whiped so ill be putting linux on them most likely
 
FoLD... we can get you setup and going in notime... You don't even have to install OS on them. Could rip out HD and cd roms on most and sell to other folders who need/want older hardware

If you don't want to pay the power bill or don't want the heat sell to other [H] folders

i was gonna have like 5-10 folding what can i do with a cluster? also most likely 20 will be donated to people that need them but cant afford them
 
Just as a reminder, your house probably isn't built to handle 50 computers as far as electricity. And even 10 computers moves the bill up a lot. (Just warning you so you don't get surprised!)

I would try to do some clustering experiments but otherwise donate them to someone who can really use them!

I have zero experience with clusters, but the inner geek in me would find it hard to resist with that many spare PCs. It's basically creating your own render farm/supercomputer. I'm guessing the PCs are likely to be ~700Mhz P3s, so 20 of them could give you 14Ghz of computing power!

If you want to ship me a few of them (Or perhaps you live in SoCal) I'd glady pay shipping. I would use them for Folding and SETI@Home.

Otherwise, I would definitly say, put some to use folding, and if you don't wnat the energy bill or heat in your house, donate them to charities or sell them to friends.

Perhaps you could put a ocmputer in each room in your house? Convenient!

And if you ever wanted to try something to computers but never had the guts to do it on your primary rig, you know, like taking the heatsink off while its on or hot swapping PCI cards and RAM, nows your chance!
