I am on a DFi now with a Barton2500@2.76. I have the setup for a 64 AMD ot a P4 setup. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but what would be the best bang for the buck out of these?...along with a mobo.

I'm personally a fan of the P4c with an Abit IS7/IC7 mobo (prolly IC7 for the 875 chipset)... but I'm biased lol

For gaming definiatly the A64 setup. It may get a bit more expensive though.

Don't want to spend an arm and a leg yet you have a mach 2 , roofle. I'd go with an a64 setup

*sings socket 939 how I love you* SNORT hmm? oh yeah, A64 go with one of the 512k 754s and you'll have some fun I should think.

well you could try and find the "ultimate" XP mobile chip.
Those low watt ones (2400+) I belive are doing very well.

You could try and beat the record. which is 3.5ghz on a mobile (stable to I belive, few people have done it, one guy used LN2 thou) totally kills anything in benchs. Wish I still had the link to it :/

found those chips..maybe I wil pick one up.

I would like to go 64, though. What mobo and chip would be best for oc'ing?

There isn´t really a point getting the low watt if you have phase change. You will hit the limits of the chip either way. And that for most mobiles seem to be 2,7... I don´t know how many phase change users hit the roof at 2,7...

How does that mobo oc, or the cpu's that go along with it?

How about the 940 mobo?

Socket 940 is out, and has been for awhile. Do you mean 939?

shit, yes i do. i always, ALWAYS switch them

940 is opterons

939 is the new A64

ill try to remember

No its not about heat concerns, the reason mobiles are so great, is becuase they are rated to run at their mhz at a lower voltage (they test bartons and ones that can pass it, hence running at the mhz they desire at the lower voltage, thus watage, will become mobiles, while the rest stay desktop bartons)

So a 35W one is a pick of the litter so to speak, chances are becuase it can run the same mhz at a very low voltage, when it hits a high one it should scale much better.

And Ive seen plenty of people hit over 2.7 on AIR. people will phase change are getting like 2.9 and in cases 3.0 etc

What my point is that many bartons mobile or not regardless of heat tops out at 2,7 Gig. In fact I have a heard time finding prommy users who go above that but have seen several water cooling setups that does this. This only of course since there are more water cooler users than phase change users out there. I somehow doubt that the overclocking skills of watercoolers are generally better than the phase change overclockers :)

But of course you got a point. I guess there is many BARTONS that don´t do 2,7 and very few mobile bartons that don´t do 2,7...

get a 939 board, 754's are being phased out

Negative, 754s are staying around for atleast the rest of this year (which is still a long time mind you), will scale up to 3800+ I think...

AMD is not shooting that [754] foot off until 939 is uber-cheap. They gotta have ~$60 mobos and ~$120 chips for system integrators and emachines to use, afterall.

Ok, can you guys then pic me a mobo and chip for about 300-400? Links above to Newegg, but I have no clue on the best oc'ing chip and mobo. I

Mobile barton 2400, 2500, 2600 i have seen all of these overclock to 3 ghz on the mach 2 setup. With the DFI Ultra Infinity rev B, some nice RAM (bh-5 if you can find some), and a mobile barton, you should be able to reach this, but I've also seen people have a hard time with this setup, can't get over 2.8 ghz clock with the vapochill, its just the luck of the draw really. Main thing I think is holding you back is your processor right now.

I am from LA..wOOT! :D

Who are you talking to, though? I know my chip is holding me back...not the point here. Me wanting new items to oc is ;)

Well depends on what your wanting to do. If your wanting to multitask such as burning cds, encoding divx, encoding dvds, etc, etc, go with a P4, but if you want performance for gaming, I would very much recommend the A64 chip with socket 939 (might have to wait a bit to get some nice socket 939 stuff). A64 is optimized for gaming, but most software is optimized for P4.

I have not seen any results of A64 overclocking, so if I were you I'd wait for someone else to show their A64 overclocking off, then decide what setup you want. :p

Good idea. I have not seen anythign either. Guess I can live with me setup for while. I am only into games with that rig, so A64 seems to be where it is at. :)
