Should i buy the Ati radeon 9800 pro first and a new case, or the Abit NF7-S mobo and a new case and get the ati radeon later?

What do you need first?

You didn't mention purchasing a CPU, so I assume the mobo you have now is fine?

If you have a video card already and need the system up ASAP, then go for the mb and case. The price of the video card will drop when you get it down the road.

OK i have a AMd Anthlon xp 2400+ with 512 pc2100 and a FIC AM37 mobo <-- can only overclock to a 2.1 :( , is overclocking really worth it? My friend said overclocking my processor this early isn't really worth it b/c i wouldn't see a difference? I could buy a new mobo and overclock to arund 2.4 maybe, or i can get a 9800pro, wut do u think i should do?

Don't worry about overclocking for a while, there shouldn't be a bottleneck since you are at 2ghz.

I believe his CPU will be bottle necking the 9800 pro. Not by much , but it will.

not as much as that 420 is bottle necking right now trust me I know I have one:D

btw carblow have u overclocked that 420, if so what have u gotten out of it?;)

I get (250) 310 core (338) 390/400 mem

i have overclocked it but i dun want to really b/c it only has a heatsink, and i dun see it worth moding the the geforece 4 mx 420 when im getting the 9800 pro. One more thing wut is bottle necking?

Why would you want to put an 8X card into a 4X bus? Even assuming it will even work, which it may not.

Get the new mb, new ram, and a video card at the same time. If you are low on $$ then get the ATi 9600 Pro. Your old PC-133 or PC-2100 ram is not going to work well (if at all) in a Nforce 2 mb.

BTW, are you a native English speaker?

Also why are you asking pretty much the same questions on several differfent threads?

There should be 0 problems with it working in a 4x bus. There is virtually no gain with 8x when compared to 4x. All a marketing ploy.

But it's with all new 8X technology!!!

Hehe, by the time 8X starts kicking in, we'll all be using PCI Express, making the entire thing m00t.

Well I was considering the bus voltages. Some mb's and some cards don't mix. My ASUS mb has a warning light LED that lights when you put in an incorrect AGP card. I believe it has something to do with some cards being 1.5v and others being 3v or something along those lines.

As far as the bus speed goes I suggest you read it at the horses mouth: http://www.intel.com/technology/agp It isn't a marketing ploy

One of the reasons I was holding off on ug my 9600 Pro! When the PCI-E comes out in 2004 [hey that's this year :)] I will be able to get an ATi 9800XT for under $200...

what does that say about the bus speed?

It says your going to be trying to do 60 in a 30 zone

yea i was like the ati 9800 pro runs on 1x/2/4x/8x buddy

Just how old are you and did your daddy say you could go on the internet?

I decided to do some more study on this AGP bus thing. When I got my A7N8X board I remember having to get a new VC as well as new memory (for the 400 FSB OC). It seems that the 8x cards will go in earlier AGP busses, though that may not be the case if you are trying to put say a 2x or 4x VC in a newer 8x mb. It seems to depend on whether you have an AGP version 3 spec or an Universal version 3 spec. I like to keep things fast and easy so I picked up a 9600 Pro when I made the change to the A7N8X-Dlx board.

However, the 9800 Pro is still going to run like shit in a 4x board as your throughput is cut in half as compared to an 8x board.
