What the heck is this cable for?

I can see one that looks like a piggyback adapter, like you get with some fans. It's going to go into the back of a drive, with the power for the drive going piggybacking the plug.

it's for driving a friend mad when he tries to find out why his drives don't work ;)

What did it come with? My guess would be a fan, maybe one that has 2 male plugs for power...

That's the thing; I don't have a clue where it's from. I don't have any such fans though. Nothing more than 80mm...
I was digging through my a7n8x's box because I keep all my extra crap in it...looking for a floppy power adapter for my 9500.

is it possible you modded it or removed the male end for something else?

Maybe you yanked it from an old PSU a while back...?

Maybe it gets the power from teh small 4 pin and then supplies the power to the larger 4 pins connectors.
it looks like a very specialised cable. I've got some strange cables I took out of one of those rugged portable computers that are similiar to that, as in they don't connect properly inside a regular pc.

It's not a piggyback, it just sits flat.

I swear the one left of the middle in the photograph looks like it though. Most molex plugs have wires entering the plug from the rear, not a gap in the plastic.

It might be for some proprietary power supply that a manufacturer like Dell, compaq, etc use for their some of their systems. I know an old dell poweredge I have laying around has a bunch of wierd cables, not quite like this one, but other types that look standard, but aren;t.

That's possible, and the most likely so far...
Oh well, that stupid-ass antec PSU that I was going to use is dead anyways so it doesn't matter.

Wow, I thought you'd have given up by now. Didn't you see the one about the psu mod?

Looks like you could use it to get power to a floppy by plugging it into a standard molex connector. Though, the other two male ends confuse me. I guess in theory you could hook fans with the pass through connectors on them to it. the fans don't care if it's m-f or f-m connector for power.
