My usual setup is just Avast free anti-virus, malwarebytes, spyboy 1.62, and super anti-spyware.

I been using this combination for the past 5+ years. I feel like this is a decent combination as long as the user has some form of common sense (which is getting rarer these days).

I wonder if I am getting out-of-date? What is everyone else using these days?

PC Security Software
I use Norton 360 and Malwarebytes Premium w/ exploit & ransonware active. The latter come free from my ISP and cohabitates well with the other. The free Norton only covers 5 devices so I buy Norton Security deluxe +utility bundle download for the rest of my devices. Currently on sale now for 19.95 3 devices at the Egg With Promo Code: BTEBRCE2 expires 11:59 pm PT on October 30, 2017
I Use Secunia PSI and Slimware Utilities Driver Update to keep all hardware and software drivers up to date daily.

PC/device Security Tweaks
I use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to access login screen something that can't be done remotely
Set all remote connections to require authorization
I Use multifactor authentication everywhere available
I Use Office 365 Outlook 2016 for email
Require Password when resuming from sleep
Change Windows workgroup name

Browser Security
Clean Browsers at every close with CCleaner Premium
Lastpass Premium for passwords
HTTPS everywhere
UBlock Origin

Hardware security
Never use hardware default user names & or logins passwords even my motherboards bios are password protected
I own my modem
Use a high quality Router with firewall built in.

I could go on and on but you get the point.

Suffice to say Anti Virus software alone is not good enough.

Common sense, HTTPS Everywhere, uBlock, some other horse shit blocked at the DNS level thanks to pi-hole running on a server in an amazon box. Everything is 2 factor'd when possible.

I can't recall infecting my machine in over a decade at this point. If I did, somehow, it'd be insta-wiped. No important data is local.

MS Security Essentials. Firewall. Don't go to iffy sites or open iffy emails.

Norton + Symantec + Avast + McAfee + Cisco Firewall Appliance + Cisco VPN Appliance + Malwarebytes + Cipher lock on computer room door + Guard dogs + Various applications of tinfoil + Prayer + Shielded CAT6 + House converted to bunker.

I view infections as a new video game that I haven't heard about. I always get a little excited when a client calls me with an infected machine because I get to have some new fun.

I recommend no anti-virus and force yourself to learn the inner workings of the operating system and file formats and how it all works together.

This. No need to pay for anything as they are all equally crappy at something. If you want to be safe while surfing, get VMPlayer and grab a free VM just meant for web surfing. Might be out of luck if trying to view porn on those sites that require flash though - or any other site requiring flash.

The big deal is phishing emails. Don't click unknown links - that's the really dangerous stuff.

Active protection? A brain. *All* scripting disabled (love noscript). Ublock. View emails in plain text. Lots of crap killed in hosts, lots of crap killed at the firewall. All non-essentail crap turned off, disabled, or uninstalled entirely in all software, addons, operating system- anything.

Last virus I infected myself intentionally with was... klez? melissa? I don't remember, but it was about that time period, and the machine was re-imaged after playing around with it. Unplugged from the network of course.

"Offline" protection for new software, even if i "trust" the developer and software. clamwin (no resident protection), virtualbox, sandboxie. This is my vision of "Trusted Computing". All my data is local, and whats not "local" is in the safe-deposit box. Every few months, I'll hit trendmicro housecall and do a limited scan in important areas.

Avast/MWB combo on a couple computers for the past 10+ years, no issues just as it should be.

Just glad I bought the lifetime since they are now a yearly sub and that not something I want to do.

Too much to list. Basic security for me is Win Defender + Win Firewall + Malwarebytes Free. But I have loads of small utilities for adware and specific virus's too, which I rarely use. I do use Spybot to create a blocklist for me though but do not use its scanner. In Firefox I use ublock and noscript. Good enough.

I use Norton Full System Protection the whole suite comes free with Comcast.

For my AV on my computer? ESET Smart Security. I like the interface, it doesn't impact system performance noticeably, and it has a pretty high catch rate on AV Comparatives.

HTTPS everywhere + Noscript
no installed AV Solutions. i do manually scans with malware bytes and dr web cureit (some times stinger and TDSkiller as well)

I use Kaspersky AV, Malwarebytes premium, CCleaner premium, SpamTitan Cloud Antispam, and a WebTitan Cloud web filter.
