My girlfriend got me a PSP for Valentines day and I was looking into buying a bigger memory stick for it. Is it worth it to pay extra and get a 2gb? I haven't seen many people with over 1gb, I was just wondering if theres a reason for it other than price.

The main reason fewer people have 2 right now is cause they've just recently become somewhat affordable. I paid about 110 for my 1 gig back in june. You can never have too much space, definintely jump for 2 gigs.

you can get the 4Gig HD add on for $180 :D

i got a 1Gig on these forums for $55, so it was a pretty good deal... you can find it retail/online for about that much now

the reasons to get a large memory stick are to load up UMD ISOs, lots of music/movies, lots of homebrew apps, ROMs, etc... if you just want to save your games, the stock 16MB memory stick is more than enough

I seen a Sandisk 2gb on Newegg for around $100. I'm expecting my PSP to replace my aging Rio Riot so I'll be using it for everything that its worth. I didn't want to spend more than ~$100 so that rules out the Datel 4gb drive. Plus I very satisfied with the size of the PSP and don't want to make it any bigger.

60GB ipod video

Did you even bother to read the original post?

I didn't want a PSP just to watch movies and listen to music, I wanted it to play games. Yes its going to replace my Rio Riot but considering that I'm only using about 1.5gb out of 20gb I don't think I'll miss it much.

Besides, If I do ever get an Ipod I'll wait for the rumored 6G because I think that the screen on the 5G is entirely too small for video and that the fact that it plays video is useless.

1gb i would say. If you use 48kbps atrac3plus format...you can put around 600 songs on it and they're decent quality along with the game saves and such. or you can put some movies on it i guess. the 32mb one is enough for me right now though. i got an mp3 player for music.

I was going to spring for the 2GB because I want to put an entire 13-ep anime series on it as well as some emus, but I decided against it. 1GB is great or any average user, but if you really must have everything in your PSP (and not just for bragging rights either) then go for the 2GB. After all, who can (or would want to) watch 13 episodes of anime on a handheld device?

Get a 2GB, saw one for 110 +s/h a few weeks ago on sale at dell. This way you can have a few dvd quality movies and music (+ homebrew!). A 4GB and 8GB stick will be coming out this summer I think.

Go for a 1 or 2 GB

I got the Datel 4GB one (which is actually a 4GB MD) and although it is slower than the traditional memory stick pro duo, it works fairly well.

Really? That's rare. The PSP really isn't too impressive as a gaming console. As for your statement about the screen on the iPod being too small for videos, I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I don't have any problems watching videos on it. Use it everyday on the train on the way to work.

He said not just movies and music...the psp is hands down the best all around portable video player and gaming console package considering its homebrew capabilities. Whatever you might say about the ds, all the homebrew potential in the world is irrelevant without people creating software for it, and there's never gonna be the same drive to make stuff for ds as there will be on psp. The screen on the psp is absolutely gorgeous for watching video, encode a dvd down to ~350 megs and watch that on a psp as opposed to an ipod. Then again, im spoiled by hdtv...anything not widescreen makes me ball into fetal position and weep like buster bluth being attacked by a bear.

Hmm guess I missed the key "just" in there. I do agree with you that as a complete package the PSP isn't too bad a deal assuming you need the MP3/movie playing capabilities. I do prefer the DS game lineup though and that DS hard drive mentioned in another thread sure does look promising.

The reason for that may be that too many people are playing the ACTUAL great games on the DS, as opposed to the lack thereof on the PSP. Though, if you search well enough you'll find that the DS does indeed have a good group of homebrewers working on it. For instance, I rigged my brother's DS to control his computer wirelessly last week (as a mouse, and as a joystick).

That said, I will concede that the PSP is a better media player due to it's nicer screen. But I wouldn't buy one for MP3 playback (it sucks) or video playback (there is better, especially in aesthetics). To answer the OPs question, the best bang for your buck right now is the 512mb or 1gb stick. 512 may not be enough for what you're looking for, so unless you can find a good deal on a 2gb stick, 1 should do you nicely for the moment.

I'd get a 1 gig now for about $50-$60 and wait until the 2 giggers come down in price. I paid $120 for my 1 gig stick and now look what it's worth :p

Yea but if I waited, then I'd be looking at 4gb sticks.

True.. that's technology... wait to get the greatest and pay up the ass, or just buy what's available now.
