What should I upgrade (Video Encoding)

I have an AM3/DDR3 computer and I do alot of video encoding (HDTV/SDTV Shows)
I was wondering if an X6 Thuban would help speed up the encoding?
Currently encoding a 22 Minute FOX HD show in handbrake takes about 3.0HRS
(Maybe I am using Handbrake wrong?)

Maybe you are using the wrong tool.
I see 43 minute 720p HD shows posted 30 minutes to an hour after broadcast.
I have no idea if those cappers are encoding on the fly as they capture or what.

Going with the X6 will speed up your encodes since you have an extra pair of cores to use.

1090T is only $20 more than the 1055T so I would opt for that.

Can you give more details on your encoding? ie, h.264? What presets are you using?

I would think something is set wrong. I can encode a DVD, from the disk to .mkv ~2gb file in about 25min using my 1090T. This is a one step, rip included process.

With the show on your harddrive, encoding to a new folder on your hard drive, your bottleneck will be the cpu when using handbrake. Are you actually transcoding the file? If you are just transcoding it, it might be more cost effective to buy a higher end gpu and use something like Media expresso (something that uses OpenCL to use gpu power to transcode the file).

Back to cpu+handbrake: I have seen near-linear improvements from going to a 1090T from a 955 BE, and then from 3.2ghz to 4ghz. Basically, handbrake uses your available cpu power pretty darn well.

I am encoding to H.264

and I made a custom preset

If I don't use the video filters the encode goes alot faster however the file size is larger
