Well, now we know taht r520 will be pretty good whenever its out. At this moment I am sitting on my x800xl and i am pretty happy with it, but more power would be very nice. AT teh moment I am a senior at high school and I am planning to going to college next year. Well, what i was thinking is that i can get my old job back and make about $500~$600 in aabout 2 months (gotta take out internet and car expenses). Here what I was thinking:
1) Buy a 7800gtx by christmas
2) Buy a x1800xt for xhristmas
3) Go back to work and save money to pay for college goods

I vote #4. Wait for the beginning of next year to see what ATI and nVidia have up their sleeves for the next part of this generation, the 512MB 7800 GTX and the R580. Im sure u can wait 1-2 more months. Think if it as a delayed christmas gift. But if you honestly need one now, the 7800GTX is more inexpensive than the X1800XT and will get you SLI right away along with the performance about being the same.

I do not "need" 1 now, but i am beggining to notice lagg, fear gave me 25fps on 1280x1024 wiuth 4xaa, and cod2 ran shit on 6xaa. I am planning on getting cod 2 when it is released.
I mean if i get the 7800gtx or x1800xt now would any of them last a year or four?

P.S. whould have added option 4 :)

Technology is always upgrading so if you get something now, you know its going to be replaced by something better a few months down the line. As for lasting 4 years, any card will last you that long, but games will get more involved and require better and newer GPU's to play at a decent framerate. So the GTX and the XT will last you for a while, but as games get better and more involved, they will start to drop performance as does any generation of technology.

See, if i upgrade now there is a huge chance that i wont be able to do anything until after i get out of college and get a good job and wait till i can spare $500 for a new card. I would need something that after 2-3 years will still run new games at least on medium, I know it is a long time, but damn that would be nice. Maybe i should save up and wait to see what r580 has to offer, what do you guys think?

what card do you have right now, if you have any of the high end last gen cards then just wait, they will be enough to play games for another year.

Id wait for the 2nd part of this generation to see what the companies bring to the table. Im sure theyll bring nothing short of extreme awesomeness. But with ATI's Supply < Demand, Id see how nVidias card fares. Also, they have a more mature dual card setup than ATi.

Thanks guys, i desided to go back to work and save up money. Then we will see what there will be on a table, if i can get it as a bday present from my parents, that's awesome, then i could save some up for college.
I will wait for the g72 and r580 to be released.
Thanks alot again.
