Hey all,

I'm in a quandary right now over what I should order for my next system. I know I want Athlon 64, and I'd like to have socket 939. But I'd also like to do PCI-E. Should I just say the heck with it and go for AGP instead? I figure I'll end up getting a 6600GT for a video card. Right now I'm looking at these basic specs.

-A64 3000+ socket 939
-AGP/PCI-E mobo
-6600GT
-1 GB RAM
-2x120 GB HDD
-Zalman AlCu 7000 cooler

So what type of motherboard should I get (PCI-E or AGP) and what brand? Your reccommendations will help me out a lot. Thanks in advance.

alot depends on the amount you want to spend.

If you don't plan on upgrading your mobo/cpu much in the future, go with a s939 and get PCI-e (just so you allow yourself the option of upgrading videocards in the near future).

For the money, the ASUS SLi8N board presently pretty much the most futureproof board out there for A64. It's s939, SLI, SATAII ready, PCI-e. Albeit a little more expensive than other mobos right now. Plus you can buy one 6600GT PCI-e (SLI ready) and save up for another)

But AGP is by no means dead, just not where mobos will be going in the future..

After careful consideration, I've dediced to go for the Asus SLI. Thanks for the input :)
