What settings in BF2?

What the highest settings in BF2 I should be able to run on my Inspiron XPS 1 w/ MR9800 @ 500/435 (~4100 3dmark05 / ~9000 3dmark03) and have excellent gameplay. I could have sworn at one time I was running 1280xXXX with all high and 4xAA and everything was smooth. It just doesn't seem smooth anymore. Right now I have it at 1024x768 Mostly High with 4x and it runs with good fps. Maybe its because I've mostly been gaming on my desktop and 85HZ crt while my laptop 60hz. Will 60hz look laggier than 85hz even if the fps really isn't? Am i just used to the faster desktop with monitor at 85hz?

Should I be running at widescreen resolutions because my laptop monitor is widescreen. Will there be performance hit if Im not running in widescreen?

Should I wait for the new 1.2 patch because supposedly there are performance enhancements as well? Should I try the renaming .exe scheme?

I just formatted like a few weeks ago and this is the first time playing on new install. Ill check that though.


Any other suggestions?
 
You can't run BF2 in widescreen it doesn't support that.

The 1.2 patch will have some performance improvements but don't let that stop you from installing BF2 as it is now.

Dynamic lighting and dynamic shadows have the biggest impact on performance so set those to either medium/low/off. I would also try running it with and without AA to see what kind of performance boosts you get.
