What resolution should I run at?

Well on my 9800pro I run at 1280x1024 since it is the max. I then noticed when looking around for wallpapers that a lot of them are available in 1280x960 and not 1280x1024. Why is that? Is that the more popular resolution?

What do you guys run at?

Run it at whatever looks best to you, but 1280x960 is the "correct" resolution, 1280x1024 is not 4:3 aspect ratio

certain games look like crap at 1280x960 to me.. like i hate running 1942 in that res, and can't figure out how to make it look 1024...

For some reason, 19" screens seem more 5:4 to me than 4:3; 1280x1024 == 5:4. BTW, that's what they're SUPPOSED to run at.

All moniters are suppose to run at a 5:4 res? I have a 17" Sony LCD...

If it's an LCD, it's SUPPOSED to run at what it's SUPPOSED to run at; physical resolutions don't change on LCD's. On CRT's, the 19" is the oddball that generally runs at 1280x1024, which is the non-4:3 resolution. If you think about it, 5:4 isn't so different from 4:3, really.

I assume by that you mean it's your monitors max?

The card itself can run way above that which is why I asked.

No doubt it's what DDC limits his resolution slider to in Display Properties.

on a CRT, you can run whatever resolution you want. It doesn't matter if its a 19"

What is worng with 4:3? 1600x1200 works great for me.

Nothing is wrong with 4:3.

Most people will argue that it is the "right" ratio

The only problem I see with 1600x1200 is the size of the monitor itself. I use a 19" and when I run 1600x1200 I have to increase the text size to avoid eye strain.

My slider is limited to 1280x1024 and nothing more. Probably because of my 17" LCD...

What about you guys out there iwth 17" LCDs...What resolution do you like to run?

I thought that 1280x960 was more "corrrect" than 1280x1024 since all the wallpapers I find are 1280x960 and not 1280x1024...

1280x1024 is the right resolution for nearly all 17-19" LCDs because the screen physically has a 5:4 ratio (and is their native resolution anyways). You could run at 1280x960 but you'll either get black bars at the top and bottom, or the monitor scaling the video signal to 1280x1024.

I tried out 1280x960 and it looked distorted....So the wallpapers out there I see out there that are 1280x960 are probalbly made for CRT users?
