Some of you may remember a thread a long time a ago when I kept insisting on buying a really cheap 19" TFT.

I first debated getting a Rosewill over a Viewsonic (both of which I found just browsing user reviews on newegg), then someone said I should go with the name brand. There was a rebate on this Viewsonic VA912B (a name that shall burn in my mind forever!) to bring it down to $220, but I paid $260 initially.

For three long, long, weeks I played around with the color settings, digital vibrance on my video card and ambient light settings. I kept convincing myself, "This is fine, this is what you paid for.." I couldn't stand the damn thing! The colors were so off to my eyes that it was painful to type my critical thinking paper on Chinese piracy without constantly performing deep breathing excersises. My dad wold come in and be like, "It looks fine, *dont worry*." Yeah right. I was so misinformed, I had thought all panels with the same specs were the same.

Finally after viewing how much more vibrant videos looked on my firend's three year old 18.1" Dell Ultrasharp, I threw in the towel. I paid shipping to have the Viewsonic returned and it was back to my CRT that kills my eyes with its crappy <100hz no matter what gun.

After thinking this experience over I learned two very important things:
1. NEVER consider user reviews when purchasing a product
2. When those guys on the forums talk about panel type they aren't talking BS

This was definitely a low-budget TN panel, I didn't happen to notice any ghosting playing FarCry.

Then, just a couple days ago, I walk into a CompUSA and bam! Here's our little friend again. When I press the OSD button immediately I am shocked, there was a complete firmware overhaul on this model  I wonder why

My original reason for not purchasing a Dell was so that my friends who would see my setup wouldn't think I'm a Dell sellout. I now realize that when you're dealing with hard cash, it pays to buy the best product and tape over the freakin jewel if need be. So I hopped on home to the Dell buisiness site (that's where all the real deals are), and I looked up thier latest digital 19" panel.

Sure enough, there was a 20% discount "for dell business customers". Which I know know is for all freaking customers, I know, I know. So naturally I stated making up business names that would pass of as legit if a lawsuit were to arise and it hit me to check the reivews for this damn thing first. Surely Dell couldn't have abandoned it's MVA/IPS goodness. Well you know the rest. (I wonder why there's a sale... )

I checked Cnet and the panel type list here, and I screamed out loud (well actually I screamed in my head), "G-d Dm Fcking Dell those greedy dumbasses screwed up their only good product line!"

So now I come to you, "O Gawds of Overcloking Comparison!" :p

I have a savings amounting to $500, I'm 15, and I need a 19 inch+ MVA/IPS variant panel.
I game, digg, watch videos, and code, bust most of all I just want to be able to read text at a native res higher than 800x600 (dam .3+ dot pitch!)

Thanks

I found my old threads btw, (don't look! XD)

Dell 2007WFP.

S-IPS panel, 800:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m luminance, great viewing angles, $360 when it is on sale.

I agree completely, especially now that the A02 revision does away with almost all of the banding issues. The 2007WFP is the best sub-$400 monitor out there.

How does the 2007FP compare, is it a completely different quality panel?

Do games scale well on a widescreen panel? I'll take a look at shots in people's threads ;)

Oh yeah, is it just coupon codes you guys use to get these amazing prices :D

I agree too, the anti-glare matte coating with widescreen is good for text and coding as well.

No on the dell website it goes on sale for around $350 ever couple weeks.

Edit: If you need to try out a monitor, then I would go try out the Viewsonic VX2025WM at circuit city or officedepot
Edit2: You can also look at the matte and glossy coatings at office depot and circuit city, the sony there should be the glossy.

I would not recommend the 2007FP. You are not guaranteed to get a S-IPS panel with the FP. With the WFP, you are.

I have played numerous games on this monitor (NFS:MW, HL2, Command and Conquer, Tomb Raider Legend, Stepmania), all look good. It is listed as a 16ms response panel, but behardware.com found it to perform as well as some 6ms panels from Samsung. As you can see, listed response times need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Even if a game does not have a widescreen resolution available, you can play in 4:3 mode by changing a setting in the monitor's menu. Quite helpful if you don't want that stretched look. Most modern games have widescreen resolutions available, though.

Ah that's great!

Now that just sealed the deal, thanks for the info.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll check 'em out!

I just got the 2007wfp and it's freaking awesome! My pictures look so good and vibrant on it compared to my 19inch FP on my other comp. Mainly cause that is a 6bit TN panel, while this one is an 8 bit S-IPS panel. Text is also really clear and sharp while reading websites. I was skeptical of all the people here saying once you go widescreen, you never go back. Oh how foolish I was! I don't even multitask and like to fullscreen firefox while surfing the web and it's great! You do see which websites are designed well for widescreen and which are not though. The great ones fill the screens, like forums. The good ones centre the screen and the bad ones left align. Here's an example.

Here's how scaling looks too if you have older games. (Forgive the bad camera pics. My camera is dying and needs to be replaced.)

Just chiming in to agree on the Dell 2007wfp. I think it is the best monitor in the price range. I am kind of a panel zealot and S-IPS screens have the best overall characteristics. I wouldn't think of replacing my CRT with anything but a S-IPS screen.

I don't think you can get another 20" S-IPS screen within $100 of the typical dell sale price.

It probably will, and if it didn't, Dell will cross-ship you one for free.

Keep in mind, either the A01 or A02 revisions are what you are looking for, you just don't want the A00.

I just bought a Viewsonic VX2025WM and it is by far the nicest monitor I have personally seen. No ghosting in HL2, CSS, DODS, Oblivion (I don't play much else). The colors are amazing (I'm VERY suprised that your first Viewsonic sucked, because color is where Viewsonics usually shine). The brightness is so intense I have to keep it at 50% or else it burns out my retinas. I payed $350 and I'm very happy.

Just checking back.

With the new free shipping sale going on, is now the time to buy one?

I also wanted to know if this is still the reccomended choice for my situation and if anyone is dissapointed with the purchase of this monitor recently.

Thanks!

I picked up a VX2025WM for $250 used and I love it. The colors are great, no ghosting or banding or anything. Visible from all angles. Best money I have spent on my computer ever I think. Although I am going to pick up a dell 2407 in a few more months.

I took a look at the viewsonic at my local office depot, and I saw some of the washed out color problems I had with my previous viewsonic.

Does anyone have any issues with the 2007WFP?
