Hi im trying to figure out what ram i want to upgrade to. Right now i have 2x512 of Generic 3200 its running at 2.5-3-3-8. Ive been looking up prices of Corsair memory PC3200XLPRO that is 2-2-2-5 and have been looking at PC4400PT 3-4-4-8. Both of these are the matched pairs of ram. Im wondering if i get the 4400 if i will be able to use its potential of the 550 mhz because on the site they recomend the 3200 sticks.

I have the following:
AMD 3200+ 400
AN35N Ultra
5900 Ultra with bios of 5950 545mhz/955mhz (CoreClock/MemClock)

There is like a $40 difference in price so cost is not a big deal

On a similar note:

I'm looking for memory for an athlon 64 socket 754.

Do you think it would be more beneficial to get pc3200 memory with lower latency (corsair xms 2-3-2-6) or higher latency pc4000 (HyperX pc4000 cas3)?

Will the higher bandwidth/higher latency give the same 'snappy' feel as a lower latency/(yet lower bandwidth)?

Thanks

Theres almost no way in hell you'll be using pc4400 on an a64, only rare p4's hit 275 fsb. Grab some XL, amd's love tight timings and if u need to overclock it will give you some nice headroom

Mushkin has some low latency PC3200. The lvl 1 stuff will be plenty good enough and will run 2-3-2-5 no problem. Mushkin also has some more expensive stuff that will run 2-2-2-5 and OC well like the Corsair XL PRO. Mushkin also makes the highest quality PCB's out of any RAM manufacturer.

Excessive bandwidth from PC4000+ is a waste of money IMO. The lax timings will just hurt your performance, especially in gaming.

Mushkin, Kingston, and Corsair are the only brands i will use. OCZ looks pretty good though but they have a bad reputation from past products.

I really dont think the Corsair XL PRO is worth $375 but thats just me. I only payed $203 for 1GB of my Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1 but prices have went up since then.
