I have got a hydor l20 a blck ice pro 120. On my cpu I use a maze 4 block and I was wondering which pump would give me the best performance try and keep the price below $60 please. I'm thinking of getting a via aqua 1300 because it is a cheap pump with fairly high performance. My temps are pretty high with the hydor and I believe that low resistance blocks work better with more powerful pumps right?

umbra, i'd like to hear from you about hydor L20 noise.
is it whisper silent or loud or have rattles during power up and down?

thanks,

Xo Martel

L20s are very quiet, almost noiseless.

A mag 3 is probably your best bet if you want high power pumping. It is $40 at reefgeek.com, the cheapest place on the web to get it. They are well built, reliable, powerful, and most importantly: Cheap. I have been running the same one in my loop for about 2 years now basically non stop. I bought a new one only because I stupidly epoxied the whole thing together and now need to change it up to put it in a different case.

You will need to buy some RTV silicon and put some on the O ring to keep it from leaking, although I think that supreme fixed the problem with softer o rings. The o ring in the one I just bought is noticably softer than the one on my old one. I'll set it up and see if the different style o ring has fixed the leak problem in some mag 3s.

I have a Via Aqua 1300 that is working great after 10 days use. I do hear lots about how they can die suddenly after just a few months use even tho they are supposedly rated for 30,000 hours. its loud due to vibration if u use the stock mount. I made a little 6 layer mount for it and it is virtually silent. Even my Zalman Z1 case fans at half speed are louder. DIrt cheap too. Some places have em for under 20 bucks.

So if ur not too worried about possible sudden pump death the Via Aqua 1300 is the way to go. IF you want the top of the line pump then get the DD 12V. Its expensive but you will never have to worry about it.

the hydor is dead silent in my rig I can't hear it over my 120

umbra, if L20 is not powerful enough, why don't you use L35?
considering it's as quiet as L20.

excuse for the questions, i'm trying to figure out each components based on people experience.

didn't know there was an l35 haven't done my research and that is why I am posting here :D

is there a big boost over the via aqua in quality and performance. Noise is not really an issue for me

Mag3 without a doubt. I have mine sitting on some foam to further dampen the noise and with the case completely open from 5 feet away I cannot hear it. Performance comparable to the Swifty or Laing for less than 50 bucks. There has been some instances of leaking on a few around the face of the pump, but seal it with some silicone or permatex before you put it in use and you will have no problems. I prefer plastic barbs as well, to help prevent cracking any pump case that you add your own barbs.
