I have a 160gig hard drive, at the time of installing windows could only use 120gigs, how can I go back in and make a partition for that space left on the drive, 20-30gigs.

WinXP should be able to do it on its own.

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management

So, WinXP has its own partitioning program, that's good to know; this should save me from having to buy Partition Magic. What about something to backup drives like something equivalent to DriveCopy? Or do I just have to buy that one?

Yeah stick with windows. I tried several other freeware and they just messed things up.

So, if Disk Management is the WinXP-equivalent of PartitionMagic, what's the WinXP-equivalent of DriveCopy?

When you install the Service Pack 1, you'll get full access to the extra 20-30gb.

Either way, you could partition it if you want to make smaller partitions. You can use Fdisk or a program like Partition Magic. If you use either of these programs, make sure that you backup your data just in case. With Fdisk, you'll lose your data for sure. But with Partition Magic, it can partition without losing any data. But it is best to backup your data just in case.

actually the NT\W2K\XP near equivalent of Partition Magic
would be Diskpart.exe

there is no clone utility in NT\W2K|XP

most use Ghost (for extensive control) Drive Image (aquired by Symantec probably not long for this world) or Freeware like g4u and HDClone (included in the Ultimate Boot CD)
an a handfull use Acronis
