What program do you use to see if Your computer is stable?

I consider it stable until I run into a problem.

Not in the habit of going looking for problems.

I don't trust Prime 95 anymore. I can run Ver 22 and get no errors whatsoever at 2300mhz on my Athlon XP. If I run the newest version (238), it'll crap out after a few hours. I believe the latest version has bugs in it.

Kinda OT, but I have SpeedFan to keep an eye on the temp - only if you're overclocking I suppose.

Prime95 when I need a space heater.
Memtest86 for RAM stability.
And a good dose of gaming.

Using the latest version of Prime95, I tested my machine, it was stable for the 18 hours or so I left it alone priming, then I exit and run two 3dmark01 tests and it crashes. So, I'd use a combo of Prime and 3dmark, though my problem could be a rare one...

I'll run Prime95 for a few hours, then boot up Raven Shield or BF1942 to test graphics. I don't consider it stable untill it has ran prime95 for at least 24 hours though.

i think that means your system is faulty...the new version stress tests harder

prime95 is good for overall sanity checks and stress testing, but awfully humbling. It brings down a lot of people's systems and egos pretty damned quick which is why you see so much negative reaction to it..

There's nothing worse than putting all this work into a system and having it obliterated in under an hour or two by an error. It really sucks... But I keep it around anyway ;)

My system is not faulty. Something is definitely wrong with Prime 95. I ran the newest version last night for about 12 hours, no problems. I just started it again and it crapped out after 1/2 hour or so. So plainly, you can see something is wrong with Prime 95.

Same CPU/Memory settings and same temperatures. I'll do it again and maintain a temperature log with MBM 5.

I think the problem is plainly your CPU. Just because it successfully ran through it once doesn't mean it won't fail next time it hits the weakest link. If the problem was happening at STOCK speeds, I could see blaming the app, but if you're failing prime at all (even sporadically) when overclocked, you don't have to look far to find the culprit.

As I've said, I'm running it again right now. I'll post back screenshots/mbm logs. If the app runs for 12 hours, no errors, then you restart it and it fails, you have a faulty overclock? Please elaborate, for the life of me I can't figure out how anyone could simply say "Oh, your overclock is bad". Anyhow, for anyone who wants to test stability with Prime 95, use an older version (V22).

I've seen people who can't run Prime 95 with stock systems. P4's and Athlon XP/64.

I've ran into the same problems. I've had overclocks run prime 24hrs stable , after rebooting and running it , it will fail with-in a few hours.

I would clock your cpu to stock and run prime. If it poops out then you know that there might be a problem with the software, but what it seems to me is that it's working fine. If it went 15 hours and then the next time it pooped out quick, it seems as though the chip just failed sooner. How come it didn't poo out instantly the first time if it was buggy? Prime just does the math. If your computer can't generate the correct results which were defined by prime on a stable machine then your processor is failing.

Hey, I don't know what the problem is? But I sure would like to know. It seems that SWAT is having the same problem that I have. It's been running for a few hours now and no problems, but I guarantee you that when I stop it at 7 or 8 tonight, then immediately restart it, it will either crap out right away or go for an hour or two then stop with an error. What do you tell people who can run Prime 95 for 24 hours straight (I can), then stop it, restart it and have it crap out within minutes to an hour (give or take)? This is the problem I have with it.

When I use Prime 95 for a stability check, I know I've gone too far when it craps out after a few seconds. For example, if I set my processor to run at 2300mhz@1.80 vcore, it craps out in 5 seconds or less. Raise the vcore to 1.85 and it's fine for hours. That's basically how "I" tell if I have a stable overclock with it. The good thing about the program is it checks your results with known good ones. I don't know of any other benchmark program that does that.

BTW...I'm maintaining the house temperature to a constant 72 deg F., and my CPU temperature always stays at 50-51 deg C while running Prime. I'm doing this to eliminate a potential temperature error creeping in.

i've had the same problem with one of the newest versions of prime failing me after a few min and sometime it would run forever.. i forget the version numbers.. but i read that there was indeed an error in the software in one of the new versions.. so i went back to an older one and it runs fine

The version I'm running when this problem occurs is 23.7 so if anyone else cares to know. What version are you currently using , I'll try that out and see how it works for me. Though I might just say forget Prime and rely on all the other programs out there.

The problem with other programs (as far as I know) is that they don't check their results with known good ones. If anyone knows of a program that does, let us know.

i play (or try to play) ut2003/ut2004 demo for an hour or two (i get bored after that) it usually catches problems pretty well.

i can prime my system all day long with a bad video card clock, but ut2003 will catch it. works fine for me.

btw ut2004 really really kicks ass:eek:
