Just curious, what will everyone be going for? I'm personally heading towards an E6400.

Seeing as how the prices will be, going for anything above the 6400 causes a major jump in cost, and I don't feel like going that far. From what I can tell, anyways, the E6400 should be more than enough for my needs.

I suppose a lot of the enthusiasts will be going for the E6600, though.

The E6300 gives you the most bang for your buck at 10.1Mhz per dollar, but I think I will most likely go with a 6600. The big jumps are from the 6600 to the 6700 and from the 6700 to the 6800. The difference from 6400 to 6600 at only around $100 is negligible for a processor I will be keeping for around four years given my habits.

E6600 is my plan but I will bump up to a E6700 if I cant find the 6600 in stock. It also depends on what sort of markup the resellers put on these things early on.

Probably the E6600. I'll only be going for the E6400 if the E6600 doesn't seem to fit the budget this summer. We'll see how it works out :)

im going back to a MAX3 and 3.0C in a few days.

Then ill upgrade to core2, vista and a nice DX10 card when DX10 has some decent games.

Right now, im not play games enough to justify the 7800GT and im not using my machine engouh to justify the X2. I use my laptop more than anything.

AMD AM2 is a socket, not a processor.
And "Other Intel" is a brand, not a processor. :p The poll looks like it is gauging interest in certain Conroe models, but also asking about other Intel and AMD processors. It seems clear to me that he meant other Intel processors and AMD AM2 processors from the context.

I voted "I won't." because i'm not buying a Conroe at launch (July). I'm pretty happy with my X2 right now, but I do plan on upgrading when there's a hot deal on the Conroe E6600. I don't want to spend more than $400 on a CPU + overclockable motherboard.

There is no Extreme Edition Conroe listed :(

I'll probably get the E6600 and overclock it :D

Gonna be over $500 with motherboard though...ugh :(

I hope not everyone else in the world is thinking the samething...we might have a shortage of E6600. :p

Christ. Looks like you guys better start camping outside of your favorite stores to get a chance at your E6600.

I'm looking at the 6600. I think it's by far the best deal of the lot. With the two cheaper models you get only half the L2 cache - something overclocking can't fix. However, I might wait until the 2nd wave of chipsets/CPUs comes out as I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

I want the 10x multiplyer. One E6700 for me please. 10x400 :D

It's a bit too pricey for me...a 9x multiplier should be fine. I don't intend to go past 3GHz anyway, so I should be okay.

If they can live up to the hype I will be getting an E6600.
I just built an Opty setup last fall, but the early numbers from Intel look really good to me.
We will see how good they look at launch...

Given the way Yonah overclocks, I'd be shocked if the E6300 wasn't a beast in the OC department. At under $200, count me in :)

I'm probably going to get the E6600. By the way, any idea when Newegg and the likes will have the Conroe CPU's up? It seems like AM2 is slowly coming onto the websites.

Im in the AMD camp switching to INTEL for sure, Question thou, Is the Extreme chip 3.33 Ghz gonna be released later this year sometime around XMAS? Thats the one i want.

E6600 i think...seems to be a good price/performance to me.

Being an AMD fan, this will be tough for me, but I believe it's best to buy the top contender on the market at the time of purchase :)

If that price chart is right and the 661 is going to be $183, I plan on getting on of those.

Probably an E6600. Does anyone have any advice on a good mobo for it? I'm thinking of ASUS, and am just wondering if they have anything new coming up for Conroe.

The E6600 looks like it's gonna be hot. I do want one, but I will probably not get one right in July. I'll put something together late in the year, like November or so.

They're not being released until late July.

Wait until the CPUs actually come out before worrying about motherboards unless you need a new motherboard now that will support a current P4 and upcoming Conroe. However, judging by your specs I assume you'll just be worrying about Conroe support in the motherboard. Wait until the CPU is out and all the manufacturers have released boards that support Conroe as there will be a greater selection of boards and most likely higher quality boards. Currently there are like 2 or 3 boards that support Conroe.

just bought a P4 D 805,, for the stupidly low price of £60. sitting pretty at 3.6ghz. sticking with that until theres a uber cheap conroe.

My current processor died this week so I was forced to upgrade to a 4400+ amd. The timing of the burnout sucks so I'll be pushing my Conroe purchase back until Vista is released but when the time comes I'll grab a 6600.

Wasn't there a 3 GHZ Conroe coming out? Is that in July to? I'm gonna try for that one considering how rarely I upgrade.

I would like an E6600 but might settle for an E6400.
Since I am going the new PC route for this I am stuck waiting until Velocity Micro or Dell have an affordable PC with it. :(

rumor that was not met - the EE was rumored to be clocked at 3.33/1333, but its at 2.93/1066 instead.

A 3.2GHz XE is coming out later this year. Why buy a $1000 CPU anyways? You could get a $316 E6600 and overclock it instead and upgrade to a Kentsfield in 2007.
