What processor for around $150?

I was planning on getting the E4300 for $123 (and maybe overclocking) but was wondering if I'd be better off spending a few more dollars and getting a E6300 for $165 for example. Thats pretty much the max I want to spend. I really didn't want to go that high but if you think its really worth it I'd bite. Or do I wait till next week and get something else. This is for my new gaming system.
 
wait just one week, that same $150 should get you a e6550 or something close to that

Intel will be dropping their prices HARD on the 22nd, the e6550 will be $163 or there about, which means a 6420 should drop quite hard as well
 
I don't think you better off getting a E6300, but a E6320 would be better. The added cache will help with gamming.

I've not seen anything saying the older Conroes are getting price cuts. It really looks more like they are getting replaced.

Never assume older cpu will drop in price when new ones become available. I would even bet the E63X0 / E64X0 will be priced the same as the 1333 MHz brothers so it will become a matter of motherboard compatibility for picking which one. Just look at why the E6300 / E6400 keep the same price when the E6X20 become available with the 4 Mb of cache ;)

The best pick close to 150$ would be either a E4500 or E6550 in both sides of this price range.

 
Wait till the price cuts come, then evaluate your options again. Hopefully the prices remain true what was predicted by the price cuts.

In any case, for 150, the e6550 sounds like a great choice.
