im looking for a new printer, possibly a laser printer. basically i want to print crisp vibrant black and white flyers. the option of printing in color for photos and color flyers would also be nice. so anways whats the scoop with printers. any good HP or lexmark ones? doesnt matter the price but im not dropping a grand on a printer.

lazer is the crispest black and white but color will cost a grand. go with hp if you are looking for cheep and relyable for 5 or more years.

I really am surprised by the sharpness on the Canon i-series inkjets. They also don't cost that much to operate.
 
i love my HP Psc 2210 All-in-One, really good quality on black and white, and colour, and only cost me about $250 CAD... Great for Scanning and photocopying aswell.
 
I just purchased an All in One budget size HP1210 and I am very happy with it.

It is not a laserjet, is basically a scanner and a printer (Can copy but I rather not).

Pretty good for $100 bucks IMO.

But if you are looking for a little more, you can get a Canon 350M I believe for under $300 and it performs really well.
 
HP ink cartriges are very expensive. Its where they make up alot of their price in the printer itself.

I would get an Epson. They are the best IMO. Maybe even get one of the new ones that can print directly onto CD-R and DVD-R media :).

I would have Canon and Lexmark at the end of my list.

So ither an Epson or an HP will be your best choice.
 
Epson is the biggest ink hog out of the three tho. We did some benchmarking at work and the HP came out on top, Canon in the middle and Epson last. We did this with one of the high end model that we carried at the store.
 
if you're getting an inkjet learn to refill your own cartridges it's less than 1/4 of the cost of a new cartridge though the printhead may get a bit messy after about 5 refills or so, you can clean it with rubbing alcohol.

I've been wanting to go laser for a while, though I don't know what brands are good...

can you refill any cartiridge? or only certian brands? i have seen those before but never have tried one
 
I have an HP PSC1210xi All-in-One, and I love it! I was shocked at how nice of photo prints I can do with it. Not bad at all for $80.

At work we have an HP LaserJet 4500DN (color), does awesome work aswell.

We also have a (forgot the brand) wax printer. It melts wax cubes as the ink. Rather cool and it does some good prints.
 
I just got the Epson C84. It's the most expensive of the Stylus line, but has the best price/performance ratio. It will deliver crisp font, and vibrant color images.

With regard to HP, we can only repeat that the price of its ink is too high. HP can always argue the resistance of its inks and the cost of its studies, but that still doesn't mean it should work out at twice the price of an i860, which is in any case two or three times faster. Especially since, though HP wins hands down on ergonomics, the Canon i860 makes up for it with its paper analyzer and extra feeder.

Yeah I got the Epson C82 and its pretty damn good if you ask me, but dont think your cartridges will last long CAUSE THEY WONT lol

I've got a canon i-850(last years model) and I love it. On straight text its pretty ahrd to tell the difference between it and something printed from the HP Laserjet III we have. The i-860(current model) is also pretty nice b/c it runs two different black ink tanks one for text and one for photos. its pretty nice. They cost about $150 if I remember correctly.
