What modding sequence do you follow?

I recently won a modding contest with my Perforated mod. I won a Coolermaster Wave case in a limited edition Blue paint job. Its really sweet. I am of course going to mod it and build a top quality case. So right now I am in the planning stages and the thought occurred to me what parts to mod first, what parts to buy first or in what order?

I am not hunting for ideas, I just found myself really curious as to what other modders have for their priorities.

So here’s my question to you guys: I got a case and nothing else, what parts would you buy first? and what would you mod first?

I really enjoyed Perforated. Great job!

Design-cooling-silencing-asthetics-details-cable management...or something like that.

In my world, I start with cooling first and foremost. To me, that is my number one reason to mod. I start with deciding what kind of cooling I want. I don't watercool so I decide what size fans if any and then cut the holes to fit. After cooling comes silencing. My cases are never silent but you can do things to quiet them down by adding your favorite noise deadening materials or other methods. Usually this stage just merges with the first wghie designing and deciding.

The next reason to mod is to change the way it looks or change the parts I don't like or to add functionality. That could be paint color, LED change, power switch change, adding wheels, cutting windows, adding drivebays or moving them, adding lighting or adding parts to the case. Paint comes last for me usually after everything has been cut up or added.

Then there is wire management once you get everything installed.

If I don't have the parts on hand already, I usually order them once I've made a commitment to the mod. To me, a commitment is actually cutting the case or tearing into it.

Of course, sometimes, the theme dictates from the start where I begin and end. The theme sometimes follows the purpose or the functionality of the PC. So with that in mind the design stage can fit in with reason #1

That's it in a nutshell, really. I jumped around a bit but you get the idea.

I think the only constant I have in my mod sequence is design, re-design, become re-inspired, re-design again... etc.

Usually I do whatever internal mods are required first (painting, sound deadening, cutting, etc) since it's harder to do later on.

Other than that I think it really depends on what you're design is what order things are going to be done in.

Ditto but do the cutting then kill sound then paint lol.

I figured that answers would be really subjective. I start with design, looks, flavor - to me they all mean the same: what is it going to look like!

The next part is cabling, which comes in two parts: electrical system and data. In Perforated, I did not care about the data side, I wanted it messy - thats not normal in my builds as you will see in my next mod.

Darkeone: thanks! by the way: Perforated got Rig-of the-Month for August! :D
