I am currently looking into a purchase of a 9800Pro. What make should I get?

^^^ yes
they are the same thing as the BBA ones just cheaper

Sapphires are really nice, or just go with the ATI one. I always buy ATI or Sapphire, because they seem to hold strong where the others always have some flaw or other. Stick with the big dogs.

Go with Sapphire. It's the cheapest (unless you can find a deal somewhere else on a different brand) and it doesn't dissapoint. I got one and I love it.

You can find it here at NewEgg.

My VisionTek XTASY card is a great overclocker. 435/365 or so with zero artifacting. Stock cooling. No problems what-so-ever. It's a year old now so I can't comment on current cards available, or cards still coming off the line.

Built by ATI retails are BEST. Their cores clock higher then all of them.

Don't let anyone tell u any different (they'd be lying or stupid)

most of the time the retails are slightly clocked higher than say sapphire. Mine was, and it took 2 1/2 seconds to fix. Not worth the extra 100bux in my books

I have a HIS Excalibur IceQ 9800 pro 128meg. I got the last of the few that came with the Half-life 2 coupon at New Egg. I've read a lot of reviews and it seems Kyle has a lot of respect for this company too. They are hard to find in the US.

I'm lookg at that cause I want a VGA Silencer but I dont have the money to take a chance of breaking my card. Whats stock spped and hows it oc?

In this Review they were able to overclock the core to 462 mhz and the Memory to 384mhz. I only got mine set at 400mhz core and 350 mhz memeory. I could go higher but I feel comfortable(sp?) at these settings. Oh and there is suppose to be a 256meg ver out too but I have not seen one.
Like I said these are hard cards to find.

So Sapphire should be good too, then. Since they build the cards for ATI.

Can it do 486/380 with the stock cooler?

I bet it can't.

True. So far this is my highest stable clock w/ stock fan and no volt mod. I'm sure it all depends on the individual card as well as test environment.
I think Hercules has the best card overall. When I watercool it I can just mount the waterblock and it's already got nice ram sinks and a large copper sink covering the back.
