I was trying to push my I7 a little farther last night and ran into a wall at a blck of 205.
It doesn't make any sense to me. The cpu temps were fine, voltage was pretty low. F@H -bigadv unit stable. It runs like a champ at 205.
Bumping the blck to 206 or anything just causes the system to not Post. I've tried upping voltages, changing qpi link, lowering the multi from 21 to 20 to 19, Updated BIOS. Nothing.
I will admit I'm still behind when it comes to i7 overclocking. But if this was one of my 775 builds and I was getting close to my max oc it would start to act unstable long before refusing to boot from a 1mhz fsb increase.
What seems to limit blck? Temps? Do i need a new mobo? Is it the cpu? Maybe I'm missing a setting?
I'm pretty happy with 4.3ghz. It just seems strange to me that it would just fall flat on its face @ 206. I was going to build a nice WC loop but if temps are not the problem then I guess there's no point
