What LCD can replace my 21" Trinitron?

I have a five or six year old 21" Sony Trinitron that I'm looking to replace for something a bit more energy efficient and that also puts out a bit less heat.

I normally run at 1600x1200, and occasionally put my old 17" Trinitron next to it at 1280x1024 for more real estate. I've always loved the picture quality of the Trinitrons and if they still made em would probably go for a bigger tube (I've got a big desk! :) )

I've been reading reviews for the past six months, and still haven't decided what would be a good replacement. I do play games, HL2, Doom3, WOW so would like something with as little ghosting as possible. That would tend to steer me towards the 19" screens, but I don't want to go back to a resolution lower than 1600x1200.

I'm currently using two 7600 GS's in SLI mode, but plan to upgrade to a DX10 card once Vista actually ships, so I am not worried about having enough GPU to fill a larger screen.

What would be a good choice for me, preferably for less than $1200? Just say Dell and don't bother, or would there be a better choice?

NEC 20WGX2 20" Widescreen 1650x1050, 6ms, and S-IPS panel.

I am probably going to get this myself after wasting a month on Dell shenanigans. If I knew about the NEC first I might have bought that straight away. A larger NEC of this type is out any week now I think. The only thing I don't like about the NEC above is that it has no pivot for portrait mode..

Here is another NEC I like too:

I don't like the S-PVA panels that get used in a lot of other monitors since they look dark straight on and you need to look sideways to see details in dark areas. The NEC's are S-IPS

@ lazuhrus:

I'm in the boat as you. I'm running a 21" Sony Trinitron Multiscan 500PS on BNC cables. I just figured out that I can run 1920x1200@85Hz. I play GRAW, HL2 & it's assorted spinoffs, Company of Heroes. At that resolution, the graphics are incredibly good. I'm kind of scratching my head at this point wondering if it would be worth the money to upgrade to a flat panel.

Regarding flat panels, the Sceptre 22" has caught my eye as well as the Samsung 22". I'd give the Sceptre a bit of an edge because one can manually scale 1:1 and the HMDI input. These are TN panels and the price reflects that.

I need to spend more time looking at the other flat panel types as well before / if I make a decision. However, after running my current monitor at 1920x1200 for games, I really don't want to outlay a fair amount of cash and get ghosting or dead pixels.

Same here, i am still looking for a replacement for my two 22" NEC's, still haven't found it and probably won't for quite a while.

But that NEC 20WGX2, does look quite good, i may try it out.

But you are in the right price range for looking for a replacement.

Trust me look at the 22' lcds. I just replaced my 21` trinitron with the samsung 225BW. The 20 inch Widescreen LCD look to small when going from a CRT of that size.
