What kinda system needs 1kW+ PSU?

What kinda system would need a 1kW+ PSU? I'm still on the fence about getting the BFG ES-800 vs Corsair 1000HX or waiting for the enermax revolution 85+....but just exactly what kinda system would need a 1000w+ PSU?

Dual 4870X2s with an array of 4 HDDs, a couple optical hard drives, a heavily overclocked quad core CPU, with enough fans to turn the PC into a hover craft. This might approach the 900Watt range.

Yea haha I did a rough estimate using the extremevision PSu calculator running something ridcioulous like a 4.2Ghz Quad, 8GB mem, 6 HDDs, 2x 4870x2's OCED to 800/3600, 8 120mm fans, 2x 230fans, sound blaster card, water cooling, and it came to like 937 at 90% load. Taking out one of the 4870x2's dropped it to like 697W.

Basically its for the multi GPU systems. Atleast when you go by the manufacturer. This is just one example. Pick any setup and look at the certified wattage needed.
