I have a project due for my networking class and i was wonder if you guys and gals can help me out.

I need to know what kind of Web server software is used on the site?

it may be ANY webemail client.

thanks for the help.

Here is some idea: Exchange 2000 or 2003 server for email server software.

Please clarify which site you are implying to?

Check out "Microsoft Small Business Server 2003"...comes in Standard, and Premium editions.

You get
1) Server 2003
2) Exchange 2003 (Mail server...both internal and external)
3) IIS (Web/FTP server)
4) Sharepoint (Collaboration using web server)
5) Shared Fax (uh...everyone can share a single fax modem)

Premium Edition, in addition to above, you get
6) SQL Server (database)
7) ISA Server (proxy)

You can use Outlook 2003 as your standard e-mail client, be it local on the network, or across the internet. Or...gain access to your Exchange mailbox using OWA...Outlook Web Access...using your web browser from home or on the road.
Check out the details on Microsofts website..you'll find it there.

Web mail clients include SquirelMail, NeoMail, OpenWebMail, and a few others that I can't remember.

I will note like most others, your question makes little to no sense. Is this a research paper where you have find out different types of Web Mail clients? Or are you supposed to find out what a specific site uses for webmail or what?

sorry for th bad clarification. i was in a rush, lol. yes iam interested in what type of mail servers does yahoo, msn, gmail use? i only need 1. thanks for the help.

Yahoo! uses qmail on FreeBSD.

Edited to add references:
Qmail: Here and here.
FreeBSD: Here, here.

reedit:
They use apache (still on FreeBSD) for their webserver, of course.

and how did u find out? is there a link where i can click to see this info?

Semi-random googling combined with some vague memories gave those links I edited into the above post.
(And a whole lot of information on how to set up yahoo messenger in FreeBSD. )

noooooooooooooooo

It's probably not that bad for the things it's meant to do. :p
(Though my mother has to use the webmail-affair that's included, and seems to dislike it strongly.)
