What keeps me coming back is the friendships Ive developed over the last 6 plus years. BillR, King, Majic, Ctwin to quickly name a few. We all want to help and we all want to see the dragon stopped. What a way to come say hi and find morale in the corner holding his nuts. To say I was surprised would be an understatement and I wish I would have gotten a hold of Bill and Majic before I posted my Wheres everyone at thread. Gone are the Relic days, but we as a whole community can put ourselves back in that feel good about what we do. The contests, giveaways and user tags for folder of the month are good motivators, but we didnt use those years ago. We had gauntlets and we traded and gave equipment away as needed. We gave the cycles to science because it felt good and we as a whole were making a difference.
I dont see this as a challenge or blow to the [H]orde at all. However, it is what it is, now lets just get past it. Do I think we need a leader for the [H]orde? Yes. If only for the reason that some people need one, there are leaders and followers this is only DC, but its a fact that must be considered. This also gives an opportunity for Kyle to have 1 person as a liaison for us.
F@H or whatever I dont care what direction we go in, so long as there is an official majority on what we do. Its been said already that were the largest independent folding team in existence. With a focus, we can make a difference in the science. This is why I am so steadfast in one team, one project. Side projects and other projects should be the decision of the user. How can anybody expect me to do anything other than what I want to do with my equipment and money?
Refocus on what it is that made you get involved in Distributed Computing in the first place. Was it the lost friend? Was it the lost family? Maybe this gives you a reason to amass PCs in the name of science and surround yourself with production, giving you a feeling of uber-geekness.
Im going to ramp up a little, and continue to run F@H until the [H]orde decides on a single focus for the majority.
