Hey dudes, first time posting in this area of the woods =p

Basically, I am a gamer, with a 17'' Viewsonic CRT at the moment. I love it, but its fucking fat, and i'm tired of having a fatty monitor.

I've done research, and i've decided I'm going to purchase a ViewSonic VP191b 19" LCD Monitor. What do you guys think of my decision?

Let me know what you guys think, thanks.

While it may be a good monitor, it's $100 more expensive than the Hyundai L90D+ which would serve you just fine (perhaps better with its faster response time).

I haven't had experience with either, but the L90D+ is quite a hot item as of late. If you haven't checked it out yet, definately take a look.

i've seen some people ordering the huyndai, but it seems there hasnt been a general view on them here at [H] forums.

personally, i dont feel comfortable buying a ''huyndai'' item.

It's a samsung panel in the L90D+ if you didn't know already. I ordered one last night and i can let you know how it does. There's tons of topic over this monitor, just do a search.

Maybe check this thread in the hot deals section:
Black Sony Trinitrons, $119.99 at Surplus Computers
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=872849&page=9&pp=20

Not sure what's going on in that thread since it's 9 pages long. Some posts have ebay auctions with buy it now for that display at around $150. People are already posting pics of them so they are getttng them and they say it's amazing.

If you can afford it, the 2405FPW is the best LCD for the money when you apply a couple coupons and get it for under $900. I know I have my eye on one because I like my 2005FPW and cant wait to get a 24".

you're looking for an lcd
you're looking to game
you probably dont want to spend a grand on a monitor since your first choice was half that price
the hyundai l90d+ using the samsung panel has received multiple reviews here raving about its gaming performance, and tomshardware has a review on it

seems easy to me... haha obviously i want one :)

The L90D+ is outstanding. I've had mine about a week. It puts my old 19in CRT to shame. The CRT looks fuzzy and dull in comparison. I can see NO ghosting whatsoever in games. The display is nice and bright. My only gripes are the location of the monitor settings, and the narrow viewing angles. The viewing angles are not a problem seeing as I only look at my screen when I'm in front of it.

That Hyundai monitor only displays 8 bit color though doesn't it? I don't think I could live with that. Are there any 12ms or lower 19" LCDs that display 24 bit or even 32 bit color? Also why does it come with speakers? That has cheapo written all over it.

welcome to marketing 101. the more features a product has, the more users it will appeal to.

I don't know exactly how the 6-bit/8-bit color thing works but i know you're looking at it wrong. the L90D+ is a 6-bit panel that displays 18-bit color (6-bit x 3 colors = 18) and PVA panels (with slow response times) are 8-bit panels and display 24-bit color (8-bit x 3 colors = 24 bit). So you probably could live with a L90D+ since it's not as bad as you made it sound in the last post.

P.S. again, correct me if i'm wrong on those numbers.

^ correct, b/c it's 6 or 8 bit doesnt mean you get funky windows 95 color shemes. 6 bit displays something like 256,000 colors while 8 bit does 16.7 million. The 6 bit then uses dithering techniques to bring it up to 16 million. This dithering (and therefore really not true colors) is why graphics artists and all those that need correct colors will stear clear of the 6 bit panels. However, none of the 8 bit panels have a good enough response time to be worthy of gaming on.

I don't think you'll find a fast response, 8 bit panel. 6 bit = less "true" colors but faster, 8 bit = "truer" colors but slower. As a gamer, you'll want the 6 bit L90D+, because even though these 6-bit panels use dithering, their color reproduction is still excellent, I think Tom's had a graph or something showing how right on it was. And you'll want the speed that the 8 bits can't deliver.
