How much disk space do you have in all your computers combined, laptops, workstations, fileservers etc.

I have what is prolly a medium amount, 580 GB combined...

60 GB in my HTPC
240 GB in my workstation (2*120)
280 GB in my fileserver (200+80)

How much do you have ?

let's see...
120gb in my machine
120 in rogue_jedi's machine
48 in younger bro's comp
170 (160+8+2) in family machine
170 (27*2+120) in studio machine
158 (60*2+18+10) in fileserver
total 786 gb. w00t.

One hard drive in each system:

30gb hitachi laptop drive
80gb samsung
80gb maxtor
20gb western digital
8gb in xbox

---------

191gb total :)

Hrmmm...

desktop:
2x120 internal, 120 external... so 360 gigs

Laptop:
60 gigs

iRiver:
20 gigs

Compact flash
2x512mb + 1 gb + 32 mb

xD card:
32mb + 256mb

Tungsten C:
64mb

256mb Sandisk USB 2.0 keychain thinger, and all the CDs and DVDs I might want to burn. :) and floppys, I have my free floppy drive

Ohh there's also the SGI, that's a 2 gigger I think.

so what's all that add up to?
442 gigs and 384mb. I think thats about it, right?

Right now my server is at 320gb which is plenty for now but maybe later on I will go bigger. I love having raid 0+1 makes things nice. I guess if it was in raid 5 it would be
4x160= 640gbs I think that right.

370.73gb here with 330gb in use

The western digital 120gb has: 57.44/111gb free and has been growing at a rate of 1.5 - 2gb a day :D

It's hard to hold off on using that lovely disk space :)

Assuming I can snag a 250GB drive today when I go out as I planned to do.....

Main PC
----------------------
250 GB
120 GB
10 GB
10 GB

Laptop
----------------------
30 GB

Total of 420GB.

For my next PC, I'll be pushing for at least 500GB to 1TB. I do a lot of video and heavy graphics work, and even 120G goes fast sometimes.

I use to have 1.2 tb of disk space on my main rig, but, I didn't use 1/2 the stuff so I sold off all the drives:)

80 GIGs of RAW sotrage power baby!!! i don't need that much space.. i'm only using like a total of 40 gigs, that's on a linux dual boot as well.

Main Rig:
9x18GB Fibre Channel
1x36GB SCSI (boot drive, 15k)

Server/Firewall:
2x 18GB SCSI
1x 9GB SCSI

"iMac" (portable gaming rig):
40GB IDE

Sun Ultra 10:
9 GB IDE

Old P200:
4 GB SCSI
2.5 GB IDE

iMac guts in ATX case:
6.4GB IDE

dead 486:
540MB IDE

Added up I'm right around 300GB. The scary part is all but 60GB is SCSI or FC-AL, and I've got 19 Hard drives.

Veyron: 2x74 gig raptors
1x200 gig WD drive

Mustang: 4x80 gig raid 10 (320 aggregate, 160 usable)
1x9gig scsi

Wifes syste: 2x20

laptop: 1x30

plus about 150 gigs in miosc drives sitting around the house.

250 + 120 in fileserver
180 in user box
120 in user box
60 in laptop
40 in ext storage
20 in ext storage
20 in user box
20 in user box
20 in my left hand
18 in dual proc server (SCSI)
9 in other dual proc server (SCSI)

so a little under 900, plus some random crap (<10GB each) lying on the floor.

200 (system/storage) + 80 (backup) in desktop
20 in laptop
20 in my qube2
80 (system and recordings) + 200 (all recordings) in HTPC

So, 600 even.

edit: I'm sorry, I forgot the clunky old firewall in the basement! So add another 330MB.

Media Server:
1x 36GB Raptor
11x 250GB

Workstation computers:
1x 10GB
2x 30GB
2X 60GB

Laptops:
1x 2GB
1x 6GB
1x 30GB

Xbox: ->Counts since it stores games music and other things I use
300 GB

total-> 3,314 GB

The scary thing is I have 5 more 250GB currently shipping but not counted as they are not yet installed.

That's a lot of porn.

Fileserver:
18 GB (2x 18 GB SCSI in RAID 1)
1x 9.1 GB SCSI for swap and temp files
324 GB (11x 36 GB SCSI, minus one for parity and one for hot spare) in RAID 5

Linux workstation:
60 GB

Windows workstation:
120 GB

HTPC:
120 GB

Spare machine:
10 GB

Laptop:
30 GB

Old 486 server:
2x 550 MB

32 MB, 40 MB, 2x 2.5 GB, 3.2 GB, 4 GB random old drives laying around

So thats 794.472 GB total, 692.2 in use.

Main PC - 160 GB
Dad's PC - 80 GB
Spare PC - 40 GB
Spare PC 2 - 20 GB
Back Up HD 1 - 15 GB
Back Up HD 2 - 2 GB
CF Cards - 1 GB
400+ CD-RW's - 280 GB
10+ DVD-RW's - 50 GB
-------------------------------------
648 GB...

Ha.

-Jeff.

I have 600gb on my main workstation, although it is actually closer to 586gb thanks to how it converts in actuality (damn yous hard drive companies for lying!). I have another 20 on the laptop, 70gb on the server (scsi goodness baby). I also have 60gb and 20gb ide drives sitting in a box gathering dust currently.

Somewhere around 670gb currently in production, and hopefully I'll have some more soon of the scsi variety for the main comp.

They don't lie, they just don't use the proper relationships between bits and bytes basically. They tell you this right up front though. :)

It is stupid for them to use a different definition of what a gigabyte is. When I buy 160gb I should get 160gb, not 152gb. This is just another one of the small things in the world that irk me, but I don't let it get me down.

It's not stupid when you consider the fact that the majority of people would be really confused if they referred to it the correct way.

"Why isn't a kilo just 1000? 1024 doesn't make any sense!" and so on.

But when the time comes, everyone would know. It takes a little work to succeed. ;-)

a lot... i know i have over 1Tb... maybe closer to two... not really sure...

my fav is my 146Gb RAID0 on my pc... 2x 73gb 15.3 Cheetahs :D speed baby!

my file server has 1070Gb
pc has 284Gb
htpc has 90gb
between my other random machines/servers there is probably another 100 or so GB

Is there really any reason to have 2 TB amount of hard drive space anyway? You can fit all your documents/pictures in less than 20 GB enough. Games and applications in 60 GB. A huge hard drive for a file server would make sense but there just isn't enough things to even make use of every byte unless you're a movie maker. I have no clue why...

Taking alot of digital pictures takes up massive amounts of storage space, keeping all of them on harddrives and only backup the good ones to optical media. And as you mentioned, ppl using dv-camcorders needs plenty of room too.

Alot of storage is also good for dvd backups ofcourse :p

each picture my camera takes is around ~7-8MB :D

80 - My PC
40 - Laptop
40 - Another Laptop
15 - Another PC
Server:
60 GB
30 GB
20 GB
15 GB
120 GB

Total is: 420 GB

200gb on my main pc, 40gb in the webserver, 30 in the laptop, and i have 2 80gbs and another spare 30gb sitting around.

so...

200
80
80
40
30
30
-------
= 460 gb total

my main machine (system in sig)
2x160gb raid 0

my emachines m5310 laptop
40gb

server
40gb with broken 60gb on rma

second gaming pc
40gb

so 500gb

80GB Comp1
80GB Comp2
60GB Comp2
200GB Comp2
30GB Comp3
2GB Laptop :D

In all ~452GB

Computer 2 is mine, but I share it with my space hogging family, hence the mass ammount of storage space. Comp1 is my main computer, and I backup all of my whopping 4GB of user created data onto Comp3 over the network.

Though my total hard drive space in use (on my only working rig) is 195GB (rounded to the nearest GB), it seems that the majority of people at the [H] each have between 200GB and 1TB of total hard drive space in use.

It's also odd that some of the people at the [H] have less than 120GB of total hard drive space, and nobody (so far) have between 120 and 160 GB of total hard drive space (the 120-160GB total space group is quite common among the Average Joes of the computer world).

360gb online
240gb removable for backup

[OT]

So far, the average amount of storage represented here would have been unthinkable only several years ago (at least affordably).

I would be curious to know how many people have a solid backup plan in place for this quantity of data.

Very few, most likely. However I do have one. And that doesn't just include 100s of CDs or about 100 blank DVDs.
