Hello,

Tax return is rolling in, computers parts are being sold, new PC hardwares are coming out. Only one thing to do, upgrade.

Basically, I am in the process of saving up. By the time all of the next-gen PC hardware comes in, these bad boys should drop in price. Even if it does not, by then I should have enough cash to blow on this setup.

What I need now is help from you guys to finalize my "Dream" system. That way, I know exactly what to look for when the prices starts to drop. I need help in the Ram/Video Card/PSU the most.

O yeah, I will be using this for Photo Editing, Webpage making, a lil gaming. Trying to be as quiet as possible, so if anyone knows a part that I can replace to make it super quiet, please inform me. As for the case, I am deadset on it. I have been drooling over this case ever since I got into the PC scene. If there is a really good reason on why I should not get this case, please guide me to a case that you think is best. I really like the design on this case, that is really why.

Case:
Lian-Li PC 6070

Power Supply Unit:
Antec True Power 430 Watt

Processor:
Intel P4 2.8C GHz 800MHz FSB HT OEM

HSF:
Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu

Motherboard:
ASUS 865PE "P4P800 Deluxe"

Ram:
2x 512MB Corsair XMS PC3200

Sound Card:
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS PCI SB0350 - No Live Drive

Video Card:
ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128MB

Hard Drive:
Seagate 120GB 7200RPM Model ST3120026A, OEM

Optical Drive:
Lite-On Black 48X24X48X16 Combo Drive LTC48161H

Thanks!!

i would suggest an antec power supply either the true 430 or true 480 and i would assume that the apple keyboard is from apple computers right?

Antec True 430, sounds good. Do you know if they are quiet tho? I am really looking for a quiet PSU, that was why I picked the Zalman one. Is this the one you are talking about?

Antec True 430

And yes, I am talking about the Apple Keyboard. The Keyboard and mouse is not really a necessity. I have a Logitech Elite Keyboard with an MX500 right now. Thinking about getting the Apple Keyboard later down the line. I have used one and I love the way it feels.

Thank you Beave

get different speakers. Maybe some nice Logitechs or something along those lines. I have their ubernice 4.1's and holy cow do they pwn.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting more than a 2.1 but I am limited to space and those 3500 are blazing. We use about 5 of them as demos. One in particular is set on the G5 and when we blast it, we can hear it loud and clear on the other side of the store. Packs a nice punch. For $60 bucks, you can't go wrong IMO.

How about the Ram? What do you 2.8C users use for Ram? Planning to OC to at least a 3.0 :D

The MX Duo wireless keyboard and mouse are very, very nice. Worth considering since you've got a nice setup here.

They are nice, but not too sure if I want to go wireless just yet. I am fine with cords, lol.

Loose the power supply in favor of an Antec. go at least 430 but frankly if you in it for the long haul rock out with the true power series 550

Plenty of head room.

Cool thanks. The PSU has been changed to an Antec 430Watt. They are quiet right? Newegg said that some of them makes a whinning noise, I hope that it is not true, can anyone confirm.

How about the Ram?

I'd get a WesternDigital HD instead of the Samsung. Just haven't heard much about the Samsung HDs and I'm not sure about them. Everything else looks fine.

Go LianLi!!! My new system (will build in a week or two) will have the Lian-Li PC-71 black case.

I just heard from folks that the Samsung is really quiet Info Link , quieter than the Cudas IV. Which Western Digital are you talking about? How quiet are they? Link?

My approach to this setup is to make a really quiet PC. I am getting sick of listening to these annoying whinning noise and ish for 2 years, lol.

If the loudest thing in your case is the hard drive, then I think it'll be pretty quiet. I understand now what you're trying to do, but I wouldn't sacrifice quality for silence (unless you get two HDs and backup every week or so).

Seagates are a little quieter.
WD's are a liitle faster.

Both are reliable.

I dunno, last time I sacrifice speed for silence, I ended up kicking my own ass. I think I will have to go for the Seagate Cudas this time. Thanks guys. Do you know which one is both realiable and quiet? Hopefully Newegg carries that one.

I personally like the Cuda V's. I've had too many WD hard drives die on me to rely on them anymore. I wouldn't use a Samsung though.

Also. I tally a vote for an Antec Sonata case. I have my P4 setup below in a Sonata with a 80gb cudaV SATA and 120gb cudaV ATA, a Zalman 7000A-Cu. It is EXTREMELY quiet, so quiet that you can whisper over it.

I wanted the Sonata, but I am in love with that PC6070. I went half assed and gotten me a 3700AMB and was not 100% satisfied. I promised myself that the next case will be the one that I would be overly satisfied with.

As for the Hard Drive, the Samsung is out of the picture. The Cudas is probably going to be it, SATA is best right or should I stick with the ATA 100? But one last round regarding the HD, how about Hitachi?

Hitach is the old IBM hard drive department. One word - DEATHSTAR.

I think I would go ATA on the cuda unless you're going RAID, if you're doing RAID, use SATA.

O yeah? Damn, did not know that, thanks for the heads up.

I am not going to be doing Raid, so I think I'll stick to the ATA. Do you know which of the Cudas are among the quietest without sacrificing much performance?

Thanks man.

Changing the HD to this One

How about the Ram guys? If I wanted to do some light overclocking using a DDR400 Ram, what should by FSB be with the 2.8?

Well I used the WD IDE Special eddition and it was fast but you could hear the whine.

I am currently with Hitachi 7k250 x 2 n a raid 0 config and you cant hear them at all

Your ram choice is excellent unless you want to overclock then you should go pc3500 or better. It will five you more headroom

I'll go with the Cudas then. But hey, regarding the Ram, if I want to OC to 3.0 from 2.8 which Ram should I get? What is the stock FSB on the 2.8 anyways?

Thanks.
Alex

Get some good quality (Mushkin, Corsair, decent Kingston) PC3200 or some Geil PC3500 or something, I'd check reviews first though.

Most 2.8s (at least the C - 800Mhz versions) are 800FSB, which use PC3200 (400Mhz) ram.

I use Geil PC3200 CL2 PC3200 ram in my P4 and PC3200 CL2.5 in my AthlonXP and I like both. I don't overclock this one though.

Honestly, I'd suggest investing in Kingston HyperX PC3500 modules. I run a set of them and I get decent timings with total stability. I've had my 2.4c running with it for several months at a divider of 5:4 and 250 FSB.

Hello,

PC3500 will be a bit expensive but most likely worth every penny. So can you guys provide a link to it (Newegg). I'll prolly cut it to 512MB of PC 3500 for the time being, then purchase another stick soon enough.

Which is the best PC 3500 to go with without breaking the bank.?
Thanks

Made some changes. I changed the Sound card to just the PCI and not Platinum. I doubt that I will use the Live Drive. The Video Card I changed to just an ATI 9800 Pro 128. What is the big difference between the ATI made and Sapphire Made? Which is better in your opinion?

And one big change, the motherboard. Changed it to P4P800 Deluxe instead of the IC7 Max3. I was reading about it, and it sounded pretty good, especially for its price.

I will not have any trouble OCing to 3.0? 200MHZ faster than stock speed. Once again, PC3200 or PC3500 still and which exact one. There are a bunch of them on Newegg, not sure which is which.

How about this One?

Thanks.

200Mhz is nothing for a C series P4, you ought to have a lot more headroom than that. Most of the fun is going to be trying to keep your memory stable.

I don't understand. I see you guys talking about headroom, what dos that mean?

But how about the memory selection PC3500 Mushkin with the P4P800 Deluxe?
