What is this?

So, my first watercooling rig, and I put the FluidXP in it, I have drained this system a few times to correct minor leaks, now everything is working just fine.

Then I noticed this on my drain tube.

Is this algae or is this common build up from fluidxp?

Yeup, fluid-XP does that, just discussed this on the DD-Forums [link]

And I pray to GOD your PC wasn't running when you took this pic, because you forgot to bolt down the apogee!

yeah i had that stuff in my other setup. it got all gunky like that. i now use distilled water and pentosin from VW dealership. werks great. now i need to add it to my new setup hehe >.< i keep forgetting.

Thanks for the fast response guys, I was worried about all of this =( after putting all this time into it.

My processor is in the mail (E6600) so I have the system running off a paperclip right now

I am a first time WCer, and when i ordered everything I wasnt really sure about Fluidxp, but went for it anyway. I also ordered waterwetter, is it bad to add waterwetter to fluidxp?

Should I ditch the fluidxp and get the pentosin/waterwetter combo ?

I added like an ounce of tap water to the fluidxp, I didnt have enough and my reservoir was driving me crazy with the sloshing water sound. I guess i threw out the non-conductive aspect of it.

No reason to ditch it really... Adding the tap water will hurt it's conductivity, but not by enough to really damage things (provided it gets adaquately mixed, which I'm sure it has).

And if you do ditch it, it's pentosin + distilled water. Water wetter is a bad additive in general.

tap water?!

i would stop running you loop now and go with the pentosin/distilled water route, which many users on here use, like myself ;)

Toyota Red coolant (antibiocide and red is cool) with water at 15% coolant and 85% water. No buildup, ever.

hehe i also did the mistake of adding tap water to one of my loops. lets just say it was a lesson learned and ill never do it again. stick with distilled water. pick it up at your grocery store for a buck. its worth it

Tap water isn't conductive enough in low quantities to hurt anything...

Hell, you could mix a teaspoon of salt into a bottle of Fluid XP before conductivity becomes a problem.

If i were to order the pentosin, should I also buy the biocide? is this normally a big issue with WCing?

Depends how much light can make it's way into your case...

Living photosynthetic organisms generally need at least 50w of concentrated light to stay alive... So unless you've got ~20 CCFL's and a big res in direct sunlight, a biocide just isn't needed.

a 5% ratio of pentosin to water will curb most bacterial infections too.

Lots of things grow without light. Ever seen moss in an underground cave. Seen living organisms at the bottom of the ocean where there is no light. Inside your body many things grow without light! All it takes is heat and something to feed on. That is the reason to use distilled H20 and thoroughly clean out your system before doing the final charge. Using saliva to get a tube on just adds more bugs. :D

What would a bacterium feed on inside the waterloop? Other than the biological footprint of agae... Which definitely needs sunlight to grow ;)
