I cannot seem to find any reference to it on SuperMicro's web site. I was just curious what a connector such as this would be used for.

Holy Dirt Batman looks proprietary, kinda like old soundcard connectors, does it go into anything? where did you get the PSU?

That PSU looks old, and to answer your question, it looks like a power cable for old soundscards or maybe old cd/dvd players so you could play music from the player without turning the pc fully on.

But I could be wrong.

and heres a tip, clean that dust out dude, you are slowly killing it :D.

Some Supermicro motherboards have an interface for that connector. It's so the power supply housing can tell the motherboard if one of the redundant power supplies have died. It would report to you via software.

It came with my SuperMicro case, and doesn't fit into anything on my motherboard or any other connector in the case.

PSU's not old, it's actually new. Less than half a year old.

That would make sense, given the power supply came from Ablecom via Supermicro. Is there any way to jury-rig it to work with my BFG board?

Of course not. Where are you going to plug it in? What IC on your motherboard is going to translate the information the connector is sending so it can tell you if a power supply dies?

Impossible.

Most redundant power supplies use a serial connection for this kind of communication to the motherboard. That way it works with any board.

Supermicro likes being on the virge of proprietary. Like their 2x2 or EPS connectors being just long enough to fit the connector on their motherboards, but hardly anyone elses.

It definately looks like some sort of signaling cable. Hard to tell with all the dust but that red cable could be power. The others look like some other color which tells me they aren't used for any of the main rails. No idea what colors -5&-12V would be however. Could also be fan speed indicators that connect to the mobo. On top of voltage or something like that. And like mentioned before it's probably some special connector that only a single supermicro product has.

The case of the psu makes it look old because there is no detail into it.

and I didnt say anthing about the rails and such, I was only talking about the looks.

Because it's not blinged up?

Triple +12v rails (24/18/18) combined 40a, 600w, redundent.

Looks pretty new to me.
