Hey guys, I think I might finally upgrade from my overclocked E8400 and Gigabyte DS3l system. They've held up well for 7 or so years and honestly without degradation I could probably keep going with them.

Is there a CPU that is dual core that overclocks as well as those did currently? I'm not looking for more than two cores because I don't play any games that utilize them efficiently.

Thanks for the advice.

Pentium G3258, but you'll end up pairing a $75 CPU with a $90 Z87 or Z97 board to overclock it.

I would go straight to a quad core, the i5 4670k or 4690k. It will last you much longer than a G3258 would.

The E2140 debuted at $84 and was the first chip that relegated the Pentium brand name to the budget line rather than the premium line.

The E8400 debuted at the $183 pricepoint, which has been one of Intel's favorite pricepoints, shared by the E6300, E6420, E6750, and Q8400. A lot of i5 CPUs have debuted at $182 and $184, the most recent being the i5-4460, but that is not overclockable; the $235 i5-4670K is the cheapest overclockable i5 of this generation.

The G3258 is the only option lol, none of intels other dual core cpus can be overclocked from last 3 generations.

You don't have to pair up the G3258 with an expensive z97 or z87 board, there are decent other chipsets that OC fairly well and contain more options as well. If you are interested in using a non z97 board with it you should do some homework about it, not all contain the ability to OC and some don't OC very well at all.

Microcenter has a G3258 + Z97 board for $99 in store.

Newegg has had at least 3 different G3258 + overclocking H87/B85 boards for around $90 total + shipping

Tigerdirect had a bundle deal for around $90 also, and maybe it's still available.

Nobody needs to spend a fortune on a board to overclock the Pentium. A combo is half the price of an unlocked i5.
