What is the difference between these 6550 models

corrected. Notice they have different numbers on the last part of the Intel SKU.
one is BX80557E6550SLA9X
other is BX80557E6550
 
There is only one E6550 and it is going to be a G0 stepping so there is nothing to be concerned about.

SLA9X is the Intel sSpec number. Buy.com probably didn't have that information available when they created their first ad. If you order one of these it will have that number stamped on the box and on top of the processor. If you are ordering by phone you could always ask the sales person to quote you the sSpec number from the box so you could confirm that it really is a SLA9X.

Keep in mind that these new processors are locked with only a 7X multi. These new G0 steppings might have a reputation already of being crazy overclockers but you're going to need a board that is capable of running stable with FSB speeds of 500 MHz and beyond. That will limit you to boards with the Intel P35 chipset. The new Asus P5K Deluxe has had some great reviews. If you are planning on getting a board with an Nvidia chipset then you would probably be better off getting an E6420 which has an 8X multi and will make your life easier.

Better yet why not go for an E6750 sSpec number SLA9V with the 8X multi. Not much more expensive than the E6550 and best of all IN STOCK!!!
