on the latest intel roadmap it specs a new cpu - q8200 - to be released q3 '08 and its positioned higher than the q6600 but lower than the q9450. a footnote says "ramp 45nm qc to mainstream 2". anybody know what this is? i was very unimpressed with the 9450 and am looking for something to fill in until i can get a decently priced nehalem and mainboard and triple channel ddr3 maybe next summer.

Q8200 is another dual-Wolfdale derivative, like Q9xxx; however, it lacks (according to DigiTimes) both VT and TXT support in addition to having half the cache of Q6600 (and two-thirds that of Q9xxx). Because of the smaller cache and lack of VT/TXT (despite, like the original Yorkfield, being a dual-Wolfdale design), I gave it the radio handle of Yorkfield II. Q8200 is also due to launch at the same price point as Q6600 (and will likely replace it once it goes EOL).

My problems with Q8200 are the lack of VT support and the smaller (compared with Q6600) onboard cache. With Q6700 going EOL even earlier (in fact, in August), if you haven't gotten a quad-core, and are not ready to get a Q9450, I would recommend that you pick up a Q6600 while you can.
