Hi guys, i was looking through some your desktop/wallpapers threads on this forum and other forums and its seems like alllll of have this software called "mIRC". What exactly is this software for. I downloaded it and i have nooo idea what i'm doing with it? Am i suppose to connect to a server with this software???

Can i do anythign else with this software? I'm just really curious.

Oh, and what is fah4console? Sometimes i would see fah3console too. What are you guys using this thing for?
I tried searching for these programs but i still have no idea what it is? Can someone please explain to me?

Noooo. mIRC is Internet Chat Relay. It's software to tune into channels and chat and share files and such.

So essentially, or basically speaking its just like AIM, Messenger with a more "technical" interface? You can chat, share files and such??

What aobut this folding@home FAHConsole thingy??

Well, I don't use mIRC, so I'm not aware of it's full potential, but it's very popular for P2P and such.

Folding@Home is distributed computing, kind of like that SETI program. You can sign up and use your idle CPU usage to help fold proteins, which may someday cure disease.

mirc is a chat client used to talk on irc networks. it is also used alot for file transfers from other people, stuff like cracks, illegal music, porn, viruses and the like.

it is good for just talking to people though

btw: the fahclient is for folding at home, check out folding.stanford.edu and start folding for team 33 ([H]ard team) also check out www.hardfolding.com or the distrubuted computing subforum from the hardforums.com homepage

hm, makes much more sense now.

Compslckr, i will look more into it but if i were to fold, i would def. fold for [Hard].

heh, IRC.

only one of the most addicting thing on the internet today...IRC will suck you in and turn you into a kermit..lol (happens to alot of people)

basically you goto a #channel and talk to other people, like a chatroom. also for sharing files, mostly warez and stuff.

theres other front ends for IRC btw.. mIRC is the most popular, Xircon is another that's very good, but hasn't been in development for years, altho thier is still an active script available for it still being updated named Kano

if you use linux, bitchx is a good commandline irc client, while X-Chat is the best gui client.
