What is going on with my monitor?

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 710N and it randomly turns itself off (but the green light is still on) and the screen turns black. I have to turn it off and then turn it on to get the screen back. I selected the powersaving stuff to never and usually in the middle of web surfing, it would do this. Is it overheating or something?

when it goes out, can you still faintly see the picture on the screen? If so, sounds like the backlight is acting up, in which case you would want it repaired. Put a fan facing toward the back of the monitor and see if it is overheating.

when it does this the entire screen is pitch black as if i turned it off.
